Shortly after he made his beginnings at the Soviet state insurance firm, Ingosstrakh, Sarkisov started his own insurance firm, RESO-Garantiya, in 1991. Ever since, he has transformed it into one of the most successfully growing companies on the Russian market.
In 2007, Sergei Sarkisov sold a 37% stake in RESO to French insurance giant AXA for $1.2 billion, a record sum for a Russian insurer. Four years later, he acquired a 25% stake in Insurance House VSK, the sixth largest insurer in Russia, and he also intends to buy the Soglasie, the seventh largest insurer, in order to merge them together. Along with his brother who takes care of the big clients, Sergei Sarkisov is the largest shareholder in the company.
