Nicky Byrne is an Irish singer, songwriter, radio and television presenter, and former professional football player who has a net worth of $20 million. Nicky Byrne is a member of the pop group Westlife, one of Ireland's most successful boy bands. Westlife formed in 1998, took a hiatus in 2012, and reunited in 2018. The group has released 12 studio albums, and "Westlife" (1999), "Coast to Coast" (2000), "World of Our Own" (2001), "Turnaround" (2003), "Face to Face" (2005), "The Love Album" (2006), "Back Home" (2007), "Gravity" (2010), and "Spectrum" (2019) reached #1 in Ireland. Westlife is known for hit singles such as "Swear It Again," "If I Let You Go," "My Love," "Queen of My Heart," and "Unbreakable." Before becoming a pop superstar, Byrne played professional football for Leeds United, Shelbourne, Cobh Ramblers, and St. Francis, and he played internationally for the Republic of Ireland. Nicky has had a successful career as a radio and television presenter, and he competed on "Strictly Come Dancing" in 2012 and represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. In 2014, he was ranked #2 in RSVP Magazine's "Who Is Ireland's Sexiest Man?" poll.

Early Life

Nicky Byrne was born Nicholas Bernard James Adam McGarry Byrne Jr. on October 9, 1978, in Dublin, Ireland. He is the son of Nicholas and Yvonne Byrne, and he has two siblings. Nicky's father passed away in 2009. Byrne attended secondary school at Pobalscoil Neasáin.

Football Career

Byrne played football for the Dublin teams St. Kevin's Boys and Home Farm. After going pro, he became a goalkeeper for Leeds United Football Club in 1995, and the club won the FA Youth Cup in 1997. Nicky spent two years with Leeds, and he left after his contract expired in the summer of 1997. After playing in a reserve game for Scarborough Football Club and a trial game for Cambridge United Football Club, he joined Shelbourne Football Club. Byrne later played for Cobh Ramblers Football Club and St. Francis Football Club in the League of Ireland. He represented the Republic of Ireland internationally at the U15, U16 and U18 levels, and he played in Soccer Aid 2014 and won.

Music Career

In mid-1998, Byrne went to an audition for a new Irish boy band, and Boyzone's manager, Louis Walsh, asked him to join his new band, Westlife. Kian Egan, Shane Filan, Mark Feehily, and Brian McFadden also joined the group, and they have gone on to release 12 studio albums and have 25 top 10 singles in the U.K., with 14 of them reaching #1. They have sold more than 55 million records, and nine of their albums have reached #1 in Ireland. Nicky co-wrote numerous Westlife songs. The band went on hiatus in 2012 after releasing 10 studio albums, then they reunited in 2018 (without McFadden) for their 20th anniversary and released the albums "Spectrum" (2019) and "Wild Dreams" (2021). Byrne also had a #1 hit in 2002 with "Here Come The Good Times (Ireland)," the Irish FIFA World Cup anthem. In 2016, he was chosen to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. Nicky performed the song "Sunlight" in the semifinal but didn't advance to the final. That year he also released a solo album titled "Sunlight," and it reached #8 in Ireland.

Television and Radio Career

Byrne has appeared on "Comic Relief" and "Children in Need" charity specials many times. He co-hosted "Children in Need" from Belfast in 2001, and ten years later, he co-hosted a BBC Radio 2 special for the charity. He narrated a stage production of "The Snowman Christmas Special" as well as the documentary "Picture of You," which was dedicated to late Boyzone member Stephen Gately, who died in October 2009. Nicky has hosted the Cheerios ChildLine Concert seven times, and he has presented the "Celebrity Sunday" radio show on RTÉ 2fm. In 2012, he became the host of the RTÉ reality series "Football's Next Star," and he hosted the RTÉ One talent show "The Hit" in 2013. From 2014 to 2019, Byrne co-hosted a weekday program on RTÉ 2fm, and in 2015, he hosted the RTÉ 1 game show "The Million Euro Challenge." In 2017, he began hosting an Irish version of the reality competition series "Dancing with the Stars," and in 2021, he became the host of the RTÉ singing competition "Last Singer Standing." In 2024, he launched the podcast "Nicky Byrne HQ."

Personal Life

On August 5, 2003, Nicky married Georgina Ahern, who he met in secondary school. They wed at the Wicklow Register Office, then on August 9th, they had a church blessing at the Roman Catholic Church of St Pierre et St Paul in France. The couple has welcomed twin sons Rocco and Jay (born 2007) and daughter Gia (born 2013) together. Georgina' father, Bertie Ahern, served as the Taoiseach (prime minister) of Ireland from 1997 to 2008.  In 2010, Nicky's family organized the fundraising event the Nikki Byrne Twilight Ball in honor of their late father. The event raised more than €200,000 and funded a heart attack awareness campaign that aired on the radio and on television.

Byrne has won a Smash Hits Award for Best Haircut (2001), three VIP Style Awards for Most Stylish Man (2009, 2016, and 2022), a PPI Radio Award for Best Newcomer (2014), and Goss.ie Awards for Most Stylish Man (2017) and Best Male TV Presenter (2018 and 2019). Westlife has won more than 90 awards, including 14 Meteor Awards, two Brit Awards, an MTV Europe Award, and a World Music Award. The group also holds several Guinness World Records: Most consecutive No.1 singles in the UK from debut, Most consecutive No.1 singles in the UK (tied with the Beatles), Most public appearances by a pop star/group in 24 hours, Most singles to debut at No.1 in the UK, Longest run of Top 10 singles in the UK (group) (tied with Oasis), Most UK No.1 singles from one album (tied with Jess Glynne), and Most successful male group in the UK.
