Donna Lewis is a Welsh singer who has a net worth of $2 million. Donna Lewis is best known for her 1996 single "I Love You Always Forever," which was a top 10 hit in more than 15 countries and was certified Platinum in Australia and the U.K. In 1997, Lewis collaborated with Richard Marx on the song "At the Beginning" for the soundtrack of the animated film "Anastasia." She has released the studio albums "Now in a Minute" (1996), "Blue Planet" (1998), "Be Still" (2002), "In the Pink" (2008), and "Brand New Day" (2015), and she teamed up with Holmes Ives for the 2024 album "Rooms with a View." Donna played herself in a 1997 episode of "Beverly Hills, 90210," and she appeared in the 1992 film "Bordertown Cafe."

Early Life

Donna Lewis was born in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. There is conflicting information about when she was born, but the AllMusic, Billboard, and BBC websites list her birthdate as August 6, 1973. Donna started playing the piano when she was just four years old. She was encouraged by her father, an amateur guitarist and jazz pianist, and when she was 14, she started writing songs. Lewis studied classical composition for flute and piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, then she spent a year teaching music in Sussex. She relocated to Birmingham to perform in a bar band, and she began recording demos after setting up a home studio. Donna started sending demos to record labels around 1993, and she signed with Atlantic Records in 1994.

Career

In 1996, Lewis released her debut single, "I Love You Always Forever," which was a massive hit. The single topped the Billboard Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay charts as well as the Canada Adult Contemporary chart, and it reached the top 10 in numerous countries. The single was certified Platinum in Australia and the U.K. and Gold in France, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, and the U.S. In 2023, Billboard included "I Love You Always Forever" on its "500 Best Pop Songs of All Time" list. Donna's first studio album, "Now in a Minute," was released in May 1996, and it reached #17 on the Canada Top Albums/CDs chart and #31 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was certified Platinum in the U.S. and Canada. Along with "I Love You Always Forever," the album featured the singles "Without Love," "Mother," "Fool's Paradise," and "Love & Affection," and "Without Love" peaked at #12 on the Canada Top Singles chart. In 1997, Lewis and Richard Marx collaborated on the duet "At the Beginning," which was featured on the "Anastasia" soundtrack and reached #2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart and #4 on the Canada Adult Contemporary chart.

In 1998, Donna released her second album, "Blue Planet," which reached #33 on the Ö3 Austria Top 40 chart. The single "I Could Be the One" peaked at #9 on the Ö3 Austria Top 40 chart. "Blue Planet" was her final album with Atlantic Records. Lewis then released the albums "Be Still" (2002) and "In the Pink" (2008) on Peruzzi Music, followed by "Brand New Day" on Palmetto Records. She collaborated with composer Holmes Ives on the 2024 album "Rooms with a View." The self-released album "documents Donna's year long journey through breast cancer," and according to her official website, "As Donna began the creative writing process, she soon realised that without any intent to do so, every set of lyrics going down on the page all represented a different chapter of what she had experienced over the preceding year. Some cryptically capture the trauma and the fear of the diagnosis and treatment while others were observational recollections of more mundane aspects, such as her favourite nurse or the different views from the various treatment rooms. What had been intended to be a four track EP now became an album as how the chapters of the story unfolded made it impossible to convey this momentous journey in anything less."

Personal Life

Donna and her husband/business manager, Martin Harris, have a son named Archie. In 2021, Lewis was diagnosed with breast cancer. She told People magazine, "I always used to get my mammogram on a regular basis, and I missed my mammogram during COVID. Of course, when I did go for my mammogram, there was something. And that word 'cancer' is just so frightening when you first hear it." After ultrasounds and biopsies, it was determined that Donna had 2A HER2+ breast cancer. There were two tumors in her breast, and she underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and a double mastectomy. She stated, "I decided on the double mastectomy even though cancer was in only one breast. I just wanted to be done with it. I decided not to go for reconstruction either. I just wanted to get this over with and then get on with my life. All the cancer was taken away." Lewis became an ambassador for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, which is "a celebration of courage and hope, a movement uniting communities to end breast cancer as we know it."
