Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1965, Jon Fishman is famous for his role with rock band Phish. Fishman was adopted as a child and grew up in New York where he started playing the drums before enrolling in the University of Vermont as an engineer major. He met future band member Mike Gordon in school and together they founded Phish before Fishman transferred to Goddard College. Since 1983, Phish has released 16 studio albums, 12 live albums and one compilation album. Their first charting album released in 1993, climbing to number 51 on the U.S. charts and being certified gold. Phish enjoyed the height of their success in the mid-90s with 1996's "Billy Breathes" and 1998's "The Story of the Ghost" breaking into the top ten. Fishman is credited on close to 20 of the band's songs as a writer, with several being solo credits. Outside of Phish, Fishman has worked with the band Pork Tornado and the Jazz Mandolin Project. He also tours with Vermont-based comedy troupe Touchpants as a drummer. Fishman credits Led Zeppelin's John Bonham and The Who's Keith Moon with inspiring him to become a drummer as a kid.
