Early Life and Education
Jeremiah Fraites was born on January 17, 1986 in Ramsey, New Jersey. As a teenager, he went to Ramsey High School, and for his higher education he attended William Paterson University. Fraites graduated from WP in 2009.
Career Beginnings
In 2002, following the death of his brother Josh from a drug overdose, Fraites connected with his brother's friend Wesley Schultz. Together, the two played music in venues around New York City under various names, and released an EP.
The Lumineers
Struggling to make it in New York City, Fraites and Schultz moved to Denver, Colorado in 2009. There, they put up a Craigslist ad for a cellist and heard back from Neyla Pekarek, who subsequently became the third member of the Lumineers. After playing gigs around Denver, embarking on self-financed tours, and releasing an EP, the Lumineers released their eponymous debut studio album in 2012. Supported by the hit single "Ho Hey," the album reached number two on the Billboard 200 and number eight on the UK Albums Chart. The band subsequently went on its first world tour, from 2012 to 2013. In 2016, the Lumineers released their second studio album, "Cleopatra," which debuted atop both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. Its singles included "Ophelia" and "Angela."
The third studio album by the Lumineers, entitled "III," was released in 2019; it was the first of their albums without Pekarek. Supported by the lead single "Gloria," the album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 and number eight on the UK Albums Chart. In 2021, the Lumineers released the song "Brightside," the lead single from their upcoming fourth studio album of the same name. The album came out in early 2022 and reached number six on the Billboard 200. In March of 2025, the Lumineers released "Automatic," their fifth studio album. Its lead single was "Same Old Song." In addition to their studio albums, the Lumineers have released several EPs and the 2024 live album "Live from Wrigley Field."

Musical Style and Influences
The Lumineers are considered alternative folk or indie folk rock, with a sound characterized by simple, energetic melodies and primarily acoustic instruments. This includes many instruments played by Fraites, including drums, piano, guitar, and mandolin.
In terms of influences, the Lumineers are musically inspired by such artists as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, and Talking Heads. Fraites and Schultz have also mentioned Ludwig van Beethoven and Pearl Jam as influences, as well as various film composers.
Solo Work
In early 2021, Fraites released his debut solo album, "Piano Piano." An instrumental album, it features piano-based songs that Fraites had been working on for more than a decade. Around the same time as the release of the album, Fraites partnered with the meditation app Calm to release the exclusive tracks "Felt" and "Pluck." Elsewhere, he partnered with the music technology company Spitfire Audio on a program called Firewood Piano, based on his upright piano nicknamed Firewood. In 2024, Fraites released his second solo album, "Piano Piano 2."
Personal Life
While on tour with the Lumineers in Italy, Fraites met Francesca Lazzarin, who helped behind the scenes at a festival where the band played. The two subsequently began dating, and eventually moved to the United States. Lazzarin went on to become a podcaster and music producer. She and Fraites married in 2019 and soon after moved to Turin, Italy. They have two children together. In late 2021, Fraites became an Italian citizen.
