Born in Chicago, Illinois, Lil Reese, also known as Tavares Taylor, dropped out of high school during his junior year, in order to focus on a career in the music industry. He began to garner major attention with the music videos for the songs, "Us" and "Beef", which he released after signing with Glory Boy Records. He was featured on the Chief Keef single, "Don't Like", and the hit song catapulted him into higher demand. Famed producer, No I.D., introduced him to executives at Def Jam Records, and he subsequently signed with the label. He has not yet released a full-length album, as he has recently been involved in multiple legal issues.

He is currently being investigated for the murder of Joseph "Lil Jojo" Coleman, another Chicago-based rap artist.
