Early Life

Hurricane Chris was born Christopher Jerrod Dooley Jr. on March 7, 1989, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He began rapping while he was young and became associated with Shreveport's "ratchet" music scene.

His stage name came from his rapid delivery. Chris left high school to pursue music full time and developed a strong local following before attracting the attention of producer Mr. Collipark and record executives.

"A Bay Bay"

Chris' breakthrough came with "A Bay Bay" in 2007. The song was inspired by popular Shreveport radio personality DJ Bay Bay and spread from Louisiana clubs and radio into the national market.

"A Bay Bay" ultimately reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. A remix brought together several established rappers, including The Game, Boosie, E-40, and Birdman.

The success led to Chris' debut album, "51/50 Ratchet," which was released through Polo Grounds Music and J Records in October 2007. The album debuted at #24 on the Billboard 200 and reached #2 on the rap albums chart.

Later Music

Chris returned in 2009 with "Unleashed." The album included "Halle Berry (She's Fine)," a song named after actress Halle Berry. The single reached #52 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became his second significant national hit.

After his major-label period, Chris continued recording independently. Later projects included "Caniac," "King Cane," and numerous singles and mixtapes.

2020 Shooting and Acquittal

In June 2020, Chris shot and killed a man named Danzeria Farris Jr. at a gas station in Shreveport. Chris told authorities that he had acted in self-defense after a confrontation.

He was subsequently indicted on charges including second-degree murder and illegal possession of stolen property and spent several years facing the possibility of a life sentence.

His trial began in 2023. Chris testified in his own defense, and on March 14, a Louisiana jury acquitted him of both charges.
