Robert Irvine is an English-American celebrity chef and television personality who has a net worth of $5 million. Robert Irvine is known for his appearances on many Food Network television shows, including "Dinner: Impossible" and "Restaurant: Impossible," "Worst Cooks in America," "Guy's Grocery Games," and "Restaurant Express." He also hosted the CW daytime talk show "The Robert Irvine Show" from 2016 to 2018.
Early Life and Royal Navy
Robert Irvine was born on September 24, 1965 in England. As a teenager, he did culinary training and cooked while in the Royal Navy, serving aboard Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia. Irvine was also passionate about physical fitness growing up, and served as a wheelman in the Royal Navy's command field gun competition.
Career Beginnings
Following his decade-long tour of duty in the Royal Navy, Irvine did consulting work in Indonesia and Vietnam before becoming an executive chef aboard various cruise ships. He eventually worked his way up to the five-star MS Crystal Harmony.
Television Career
Irvine began his television career in early 2007 as the host of the Food Network reality competition show "Dinner: Impossible." On the show, he was given numerous culinary challenges he would have to complete within a set time. Irvine hosted "Dinner: Impossible" for its first four seasons before he was fired due to alleged falsehoods found in his résumé. Following some brouhaha, Irvine was reinstated by Food Network for the sixth season of "Dinner: Impossible," and he continued hosting the show through the eighth season in 2010. The show was later revived in 2021 for a ninth season, which Irvine also hosted. Meanwhile, from 2011 to 2016 and again from 2019 to 2023, Irvine was the star of the spinoff reality series "Restaurant: Impossible," in which he renovated failing American restaurants on a tight deadline and budget. Also in 2011, he served as the mentor for the second season of "Worst Cooks in America" and competed in the fourth season of "The Next Iron Chef."
In late 2013, Irvine hosted the short-lived reality competition series "Restaurant Express." A few years after that, he began hosting his own daytime talk show, "The Robert Irvine Show," on the CW. On that show, which aired weekdays, Irvine attempted to work out problems between his guests in a traditional conflict-resolution format. Due to low ratings, the show was canceled after two seasons and aired its final episode in the spring of 2018. Meanwhile, Irvine continued appearing on various Food Network programs, including "Chopped," "Guy's Grocery Games," and "All-Star Academy." In 2021, he began starring in the Disney+ series "The Globe," and in 2022 he starred opposite his friend and fellow television personality Jon Taffer in the Discovery+ series "Restaurant Rivals: Irvine vs. Taffer."
