Anok Yai is a South Sudanese-American fashion model who has a net worth of $5 million. Anok Yai has appeared in such top fashion magazines as i-D, Vogue, Elle, and W, and in 2018 became the second Black model after Naomi Campbell to open a Prada show. Yai has walked the runway for such other designer brands as Versace, Burberry, Mugler, and Louis Vuitton and appeared in ads for Nike, Ambush, Tiffany & Co., and Yves Saint Laurent.

Early Life and Education

Anok Yai was born on December 20, 1997 in Cairo, Egypt. She comes from a Christian family that fled genocide in Sudan. When Yai was three years old, she moved with her family to the United States, settling in Manchester, New Hampshire. Her mother is a nurse and her father works for the nonprofit Easterseals, while her sister Alim is her manager. After graduating from Manchester High School West, Yai went to Plymouth State University, where she studied biochemistry.

Career

In late 2017, Yai was spotted by professional photographer Steve Hall at Howard University's homecoming week. He took her picture and put it on Instagram, where it amassed over 20,000 likes and drew the attention of several modeling agencies. Yai eventually signed with Next Model Management. Within about four months after signing, she opened a Prada fashion show, in the process becoming the first Sudanese model and the second Black model ever to do so. Yai continued to ascend to stardom after that, walking the runway for such eminent brands as Versace, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Burberry and appearing in ads for Nike, Ambush, and Tiffany & Co., among other companies. She has also graced the covers of many prestigious fashion magazines, including Elle, W, Harper's Bazaar, i-D, AnOther, and several international editions of Vogue. In 2018, Yai became a spokesmodel for Estée Lauder and appeared in a campaign for Alexander Wang. The next year, she appeared alongside fellow models Adut Akech and Alton Mason in a short film for the Chanel Pharrell Collection.

In 2020, Yai was in campaigns for Versace and Alexander McQueen, and in 2021 she led campaigns for Ambush, Hood By Air, and Yves Saint Laurent. Yai was officially recognized as a supermodel in 2022, when she modeled in campaigns for Max Mara, Alexander McQueen, Loro Piana, and Tiffany & Co. and appeared in the 50th-anniversary edition of W magazine. She solidified her status in 2023 when she opened her first Mugler show during Paris Fashion Week and appeared at the Met Gala in a custom Prabal Gurung. Yai also appeared in the music video for rapper Lil Yachty's song "Say Something." For her 2023, Yai was chosen as Model of the Year by models.com. Kicking off her 2024, she walked the runway for Louis Vuitton during Paris Fashion Week. Yai then appeared as a video vixen in the music video for rapper Travis Scott's song "I KNOW ?" She also became the face of the fragrance Alien Hypersense, released by Mugler. Later in the year, Yai appeared in the music video for rapper Offset's song "Swing My Way."
