What Is Rupert Sanders' Net Worth?
Rupert Sanders is a British director, writer, and producer who has a net worth of $16 million. Rupert Sanders made his name as a director with visually stunning commercial spots for such clients as Axe, Nike, "Halo," X-Box, Absolut, Adidas, "Call of Duty," Guinness, DirecTV, and Activision. In the summer of 2012, his first feature film was released. The project, "Snow White and the Huntsman," starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth, was a success, earning just over $381 million at the box office. Just after the release of the film, photos of the married Mr. Sanders making out with the star of the film, Kristen Stewart, were published in Us Weekly. After the very public fallout, which was mostly centered on the much younger, unmarried actress, Rupert and his wife, Liberty Ross, quietly began divorce proceedings. Since then, Sanders has directed the 2017 action film "Ghost in the Shell" and the 2024 reboot of the 1994 supernatural cult classic "The Crow." He also directed the 2021 pilot of the Apple TV+ series "Foundation." Rupert executive-produced "The Crow," and he directed and executive-produced the 2010 short film "Black Hole," which he co-wrote with Charles Burns and Milo Ross.
Divorce Settlement with Liberty Ross
In May 2014, Liberty and Rupert were officially divorced. In the settlement, Rupert was required to give Liberty two houses in London, their main residence in Los Angeles, half of all bank accounts, half of all retirement accounts, $25,000 a month in spousal support for four years, $14,000 a month in child support until their two children are 18, and 15% of any profits he earns from all of his films except "Snow White and the Huntsman." Ouch. Rupert was allowed to keep a Malibu beach house and a 1970 VW van. They split custody of their children.

Early Life
Rupert Sanders was born Rupert Miles Sanders on March 16, 1971, in London, England. He is the son of Thalia and Michael Sanders, and his father worked as a neuro-ophthalmic surgeon. After spending a foundation year at Kingston School of Art, Rupert earned a graphic design degree from Central St Martins.
Career
Sanders began making commercials under Tony Kaye after previously working in art direction. Rupert subsequently directed numerous TV commercials and won two Golden Lion awards at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival for "The Life for Halo 3: ODST." He spoke to The Guardian about breaking into the business, stating, "I knew that I needed a commercial, so, with very little money, I made one for Sony Walkman. I had no idea what I was doing but I took it to an agency. A week later, they called and said they'd sold it to Sony for £35,000. You do little jobs to start and then you have these breakthroughs every couple of years. I did a big Guinness job and I was expecting this magical doorway to unlock then it didn't really go anywhere, so I went to America, luckily at the time of the videogame explosion."
Sanders made his feature film debut with 2012's "Snow White and the Huntsman," which starred Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, and Sam Claflin. The film grossed $396.6 million against a $170 million budget and earned a People's Choice Award nomination for Favorite Film and a Saturn Award nomination for Best Fantasy Film. Rupert passed on directing "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" and instead chose to direct a film adaptation of the manga franchise "Ghost in the Shell." Released in 2017, the film starred Scarlett Johansson, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Chin Han, and Juliette Binoche and grossed $169.8 million against a $110 million budget. Next, he directed the pilot of the science-fiction series "Foundation," which began streaming on Apple TV+ in 2021.
In 2018, Sanders announced that he would direct Scarlett Johansson in the film "Rub & Tug," a biopic about transmasculine gangster Dante "Tex" Gill. However, there was backlash from the transgender community about a woman playing the role, so Johansson dropped out, and the film went into development hell. In 2024, Rupert direct a reboot of the 1994 supernatural film "The Crow." Starring Bill Skarsgård, FKA Twigs, and Danny Huston, the film grossed $24.1 million against a $50 million budget. Sanders has also directed the music videos "Five: Slam Dunk (Da Funk)" (1997) and "How to Destroy Angels: The Space in Between" (2010) and the short film "Black Hole" (2010).
Personal Life
Rupert married model Liberty Ross on August 30, 2003, and they welcomed son Tennyson and daughter Skyla together. Liberty is the sister of award-winning musicians Atticus and Leopold Ross, and when Rupert met her, she was "the 17-year-old little sister of his best friend Milo." Sanders told The Guardian, "We were at a party one night, and this beautiful girl walked in the room. I just knew I was going to marry her. It took a while. I didn't propose to her for seven years because I felt that she was too young and she'd resent me if she hadn't lived. But it was good because I was off making commercials and she was modelling, so we had quite a free – not sexually free, we weren't swinging or having other relationships … I hope! – but we both lived very independent lives, then we'd meet up. It kept the fire burning. She's been very supportive and she's been a strong single mother for the last year-and-a-half, because I haven't been around." Liberty filed for divorce in January 2013, a few months after Us Weekly published photos of Rupert kissing actress Kristen Stewart. The divorce was finalized in May 2014.
Awards and Nominations
In 2013, "Snow White and the Huntsman" won a Top Ten of the Year – Audience Award at the CinEuphoria Awards. In 2009, Sanders earned a Directors Guild of America Award nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials for the Monster ad "Legs," the Jordan ad "Clock Tower," and the Travelers Insurance ad "Delivery." In 2010, he received a Camerimage nomination for Best Music Video for "How to Destroy Angels: The Space in Between.
