Early Life
Keely Shaye Smith was born on September 25, 1963, in Vallejo, California. Her family later lived in Hawaii, then they moved to Southern California when Keely was five years old. The first elementary school she attended was on the beach, and it inspired an appreciation for the ocean. Smith was raised in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach, and during her childhood, she dedicated her time to helping save the Bolsa Chica wetlands. She said of that time, "We took many field trips to collect trash on the beaches and around the wetlands, and then we then used the money from recycling to take trips to Yosemite, Catalina, Death Valley, and Dana Point to study ecology… I applaud the teachers who created that program." After college, Keely moved to New York City in 1984 to pursue a career as an actress and model. She filmed 25 commercials in less than four years.

In 1986, Smith appeared in the Huey Lewis and the News music video "Stuck with You."

The show also earned her an Environmental Media Association award nomination. She has been honored by many organizations for her commitment to environmental issues, including Heal the Bay, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and Oceana. From 1995 to 1997, Smith was a correspondent on the NBC series "Unsolved Mysteries," working in the "phone center" and giving updates on stories that had been covered on the program. Keely met actor Pierce Brosnan in 1994 on a Mexico beach, and they married on August 4, 2001, in Ireland. The couple has welcomed sons Dylan (born 1997) and Paris (born 2001) together. From 1995 to 2000, Keely and Pierce worked with the International Fund for Animal Welfare and the Natural Resources Defense Council to prevent the construction of a salt factory at Laguna San Ignacio in Mexico. They have been sponsors of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots humanitarian program and have supported environmental education in K-12 classrooms. In 2007, Smith and Brosnan were involved in successful efforts to stop the Cabrillo Port Liquefied Natural Gas facility from being built off the coast of Malibu and Oxnard. That year they also donated $100,000 toward replacing a playground in Kauai, Hawaii. In 2009, they testified before the Environmental Protection Agency in support of the American Clean Energy and Security Act. Keely's 2018 documentary "Poisoning Paradise" is about "the effects of pesticide use and the environmental injustice on a local population in Hawaii."

In 2001, Smith and Brosnan won a Humanitarian Award at the Women in Film Crystal Awards. In 2017, the couple was honored with the Brosnan Award for "Poisoning Paradise" at the Hawaii European Cinema Film Festival. Real Estate
Pierce and Keely own a number of impressive properties around the globe. In 1996, Pierce bought a home in Malibu out of foreclosure for $600,000. He sold his house in 2012 for $2.6 million. In 2000, the Brosnans bought a one-acre beachfront property in Malibu for an undisclosed price. They tore down the existing home and built a 13,000-square-foot Tahitian-style mansion that sits on 120 feet of ocean frontage. Over various summers, Pierce and Keely have rented the house during summer months for $250,000 PER MONTH. A 2015 fire destroyed part of the home, including the garage, which housed extremely valuable cars such as the 2002 Aston Martin V12 Vanquish made famous by the 2002 Bond movie "Die Another Day." The home was damaged again in November 2019 during the Woolsey Fire that destroyed large portions of Malibu. Today, Pierce's Malibu house is estimated to be worth $20-$25 million. In September 2019, the Brosnans spent $2.4 million on a relatively modest home in Santa Monica, California. Outside of California, the couple owns a multi-home compound on the Hawaiian island of Kauai near Anini Beach. Nearby neighbors include Bette Midler, Mark Zuckerberg, and Ben Stiller.
