Early Life
Drew Tarver was born Andrew Tarver on May 6, 1986, in Glennville, Georgia. His parents owned a candy factory, and Drew has three younger siblings, Amanda, Jake, and actress / singer Katelyn. There were around 20 people in Tarver's graduating class. In the early 2000s, Drew's sisters auditioned for the "American Idol" spin-off "American Juniors," and Katelyn made it onto the show. The Tarver family was featured in segments on the show, and Drew realized that he liked entertaining people and wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. At the age of 18, he moved to New York City and started taking improv classes at the famed Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. Tarver later relocated to Los Angeles and started performing at the UCB Theater there. He formed the comedy troupe Big Grande with Ryan Rosenberg, Dan Lippert, and Jon Mackey, and they launched the podcast "Big Grande: The Teacher's Lounge."
Career
After appearing in the short films "Sora and Charu Go to the Felix Awards" (2009), "2 Man 3 Way" (2011), and "Bridges on Bridges" (2011), Tarver made his TV debut in a 2012 episode of "Animal Practice." Next, he guest-starred on "Newsreaders" (2013), "Big Time Rush" (2013), "NTSF:SD:SUV::" (2013), "The McCarthys" (2014), "Filthy Preppy Teen$" (2015), "Angel from Hell" (2016), "Comedy Bang! Bang!" From 2019 to 2021, Drew voiced Randy, Charles Lee, and several other characters on the animated Fox series "Bless the Harts." Around this time, he guest-starred on "Three Busy Debras" (2020), "Ghosts" (2022), and "History of the World, Part II" (2023) and lent his voice to "Hoops" (2020) and "Inside Job" (2021). In 2020, Tarver had a recurring role as Brent Davenport on the Quibi series "Mapleworth Murders." In 2024, he co-starred with Justice Smith and David Alan Grier in the film "The American Society of Magical Negroes" and with Jerry Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Max Greenfield, Hugh Grant, and Amy Schumer in the Netflix comedy "Unfrosted," which was directed by Seinfeld. In 2025, Drew began starring as Alexander "Sandy" Gordon on the Netflix series "Running Point" alongside Kate Hudson. The series was renewed for a second season in March 2025. Drew was cast in the 2013 pilot of the "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off "How I Met Your Dad." It was reported that the show had been picked up for a first-season run, but Tarver's manager informed him that the news was false and that the pilot had not been picked up. Drew told Vulture, "It was particularly rough but also it was so crazy that I was in it, with basically no TV experience at the time, as some guy who grew up in a chicken field. It felt like, 'You won the lottery! Oh no you didn't.'"
Personal Life
Drew came out as bisexual when he was 26 years old. He told Vulture in 2019, "When you're starting to figure it out in a small town, it's definitely tough. You're trying to figure it out. I didn't come out until I was 26. That sort of small town upbringing can be tough but I didn't have it that bad."
