He developed Bollinger Bands and authored the book Bollinger on Bollinger Brands in 2001. His newsletter Capital Growth Letter provides technical analysis of financial markets. He started developing Bollinger Bands in the 1980s and they are intervals that are drawn on a price chart to define high and low on a relative basis. The concept was first introduced on Financial News Network without a name.

John Bollinger purchased a microcomputer in 1977 and became involved in computer driven technical analysis.
