Cashin is director of floor operations for UBS Financial Services at the New York Stock Exchange. He started working on Wall Street right after he graduated high school. Cashin's first job was as an assistant clerk at Thomas & McKinnon in 1959. He is well known for his daily newsletter Cashin's Comments and has appeared on financial television programs. Cashin was part of a folk singing quartet and would have been signed to a record deal if the deal with Ray Charles didn't work out.

Cashin became a partner at P.R. Herzig & Co. in 1964. In 1980 he joined Paine Webber as an institutional floor broker. He founded the Exchange Christmas Dinner Fund which fed over 185,000 people in 2006. Art's wife passed away after a battle with cancer in 1998. Cashin walked through the World Trade Center twice on the morning of the 9/11 attacks and now chairs the NYSE Fallen Heroes Fund.
