What is Olivier Rousteing's Net Worth?

Olivier Rousteing is a French fashion designer who has a net worth of $10 million. Olivier Rousteing served as the creative director of the French luxury fashion house Balmain from 2011 to 2025, during which time he brought an Asian aesthetic influence to the brand and helped raise its profile through many high-profile celebrity endorsements. Among his other ventures, Rousteing designed the costumes for the opera ballet "Renaissance" in 2017.

Early Life and Education

Olivier Rousteing was born on September 13, 1985 in Bordeaux, France. When he was a year old, he was adopted by an optician mother and a seaport manager father. Rousteing grew up in Bordeaux before moving to Paris to study at the École supérieure des arts et techniques de la mode. However, due to his frustration with a lack of creative freedom there, he dropped out during his first year.

Career

Rousteing began his professional career at Roberto Cavalli's luxury fashion house in 2003. There, he served five years as the creative director of the women's ready-to-wear collection. Rousteing subsequently joined the French luxury fashion house Balmain in 2009. He worked there with creative director Christophe Decarnin until Decarnin left in 2011. Rousteing then became the new creative director of Balmain. In this role, he worked to reorient the brand toward a more couture-driven sensibility while injecting an Asian influence into the clothing. Due to his young age, lack of industry prestige, and African heritage, Rousteing was the subject of opprobrium from many in the fashion establishment. However, he steadily raised Balmain's profile and expanded its operations over the years. Between 2012 and 2015, the company's revenue saw an estimated increase from 15% to 20%, and in 2016 Rousteing opened the brand's New York City flagship store in the SoHo neighborhood. The year after that, he debuted Balmain's first line of accessories.

In late 2018, Rousteing introduced the new Balmain logo, featuring a merged "P" and "B" in reference to the initials of founder Pierre Balmain. The following year, he partnered with model and actress Cara Delevingne and the brand Puma on a 35-piece athletic wear collection. Rousteing continued to enlist the help of various celebrities to boost the profile of Balmain. He secured endorsements from such singers as Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Kelly Rowland, and Rihanna, and collaborated with a number of Victoria's Secret models. From these efforts, Balmain became the first French fashion label to amass one million followers on Instagram. It wasn't all smooth sailing for Rousteing, however, as a van holding over 50 designs for Paris Fashion Week was robbed en route to the Balmain studio in the fall of 2023. After 14 years as the creative director of Balmain, Rousteing announced he was stepping down in late 2025.

Other Ventures

Beyond Balmain, Rousteing designed the costumes for the opera ballet "Renaissance" in 2017. A 27-minute production featuring 22 dancers and choreographed by Sébastien Bertaud, the ballet premiered at Opéra de Paris. Later, in 2022, Rousteing signed with Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles to explore opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life

Rousteing is openly gay. He is also fully African, something he only discovered in 2019 when the documentary film "Wonder Boy" was made about his life and career. In the film, Rousteing searches for his biological parents and learns that his mother was Ethiopian and his father was Somali.
