What is Kevin Trudeau's Net Worth?

Kevin Trudeau is an American salesman, author, television personality, and convicted felon who has a net worth of -$37 million. Kevin Trudeau is notorious for his books and late-night television infomercials promoting false health and financial advice, which resulted in several criminal penalties and finally convictions for larceny, fraud, and contempt of court. He served eight years in prison before leaving federal custody in 2022.

Early Life and Education

Kevin Trudeau was born in either 1962 or 1963. He was adopted by Mary and Robert and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts. Trudeau attended St. Mary's High School in Lynn.

Career Beginnings

After graduating from high school, Trudeau worked as a used car salesman. He then began his grifting career by selling memory improvement techniques via audiotape. In 1990, Trudeau pleaded guilty to depositing $80,000 in bad checks and impersonating a doctor. The next year, he pleaded guilty to larceny and 11 counts of credit card fraud and was sentenced to federal prison, where he served two years. Following his release, Trudeau returned to conning by joining the multi-level marketing firm Nutrition for Life, which was soon charged by multiple states of running a pyramid scheme.

Infomercials and Books

Trudeau became most widely known for producing and appearing in late-night television infomercials promoting various dubious products and advice. They were for health aids, dietary supplements, addiction treatments, real estate investment strategies, reading improvement programs, and much more. While these infomercials gained Trudeau a fortune, they regularly resulted in legal actions by the Federal Trade Commission, which accused him of making unsubstantiated claims. In 1998, he was fined $500,000 for making false or misleading claims in his infomercials. Later, in 2004, Trudeau paid a $2 million fine and was banned from marketing any products other than his books, which he began writing in response to the ban. His first book, "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About," was self-published in 2005. Featuring myriad conspiracy theories and false claims, the book was heavily criticized, although it sold well due to Trudeau's promotion of it through his infomercials. He went on to self-publish a follow-up book entitled "More Natural Cures Revealed: Previously Censored Brand Name Products That Cure Disease."

In 2007, Trudeau published two books: "The Weight Loss Cure 'They' Don't Want You to Know About," and "Debt Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About." Like his previous books, they were roundly denounced for propagating false and misleading medical information. Trudeau was subsequently charged by the FTC of contempt of his 2004 court order for severely misrepresenting the content of his weight loss book. He was issued more criminal penalties in 2008, including a three-year ban from all infomercials. The following year, Trudeau published another book, "Your Wish is Your Command," offering advice related to the New Thought concept of the law of attraction.

International Pool Tour

In 2005, Trudeau founded the International Pool Tour with the intention of turning billiards into a major professional sport. Modeled after the PGA Tour, the IPT had initial success with its first three events before a fourth event, the IPT World Open in Reno, Nevada, floundered due to lack of funding. Although the winners were promised their prizes would be received in small installments, most were never paid, and the IPT was consequently killed along with the prospects of professional pool.

Arrests and Conviction

In early 2010, Trudeau was arrested for criminal contempt of court after he had asked his followers to email the federal judge overseeing his pending civil case by the FTC. He was subsequently sentenced to 30 days in jail. Trudeau filed an appeal, but lost it in late 2011. In 2013, he was held in civil contempt for violating multiple court orders and failing to pay a $37 million fine. He was arrested again after refusing to cooperate with an investigation and was convicted of criminal contempt. In 2014, Trudeau was sentenced to ten years in federal prison. He left in 2022, after eight years, but failed to pay the $37 million fine. As a result, some of his assets were seized. He was then held in contempt of court once again after he failed to appear for a hearing.

Personal Life

Trudeau has been wed multiple times. His first wife was a Ukrainian immigrant named Oleksandra Polozhentseva. Next, Trudeau married Norwegian student Kristine Dorow in 2007; their marriage was annulled after four months. In 2008, he wed another Ukrainian woman, Natalya Babenko. She later had the marriage annulled in 2022 on account of Trudeau's fraud.
