Born Micky 'Mukesh' Jagtiani on September 28, 1951, in Madras, he was a self-made billionaire who owned the Dubai-based Landmark retail-stores group. Once a college drop-out and a London taxi-driver, Jagtiani opened his first store in Bahrain in 1973 with a $6,000 he got after his entire family died in a short period of time. Some forty years later, he is the owner of Landmark Group, the Middle East retail conglomerate with more than 1,300 stores in 20 countries. It's a $5 billion business (in estimated sales) that has expanded to Dubai over the years, mainly dealing with fashion, electronics, furniture and budget hotels in Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Jagtiani also holds a stake in Skaks. and acquired a 6% stake in UK high-street retailer Debenhams. A portion of his growing wealth goes to Indian charities, including orphanage in Chennai and Mumbai. A married man and a father of three, Jagtiani's wife Renuka oversees Splash, his company's fashion line, and his children also become involved in the family business. Micky Jagtiani died on May 26, 2023.
