What is Don Laughlin's Net Worth?

Don Laughlin is an American gambling entrepreneur and rancher who has a net worth of $1 billion. Born Donald J. Laughlin on May 4, 1931 in Owatonna, United States, he has rose to riches from humble beginnings. In his youth, he worked as a fur trapper and that's how he made his first earnings. Blessed with entrepreneurial spirit, he used his initial profits for slot machines that he installed in hunting lodges. Thus, he started to make $500 a week and he decided to leave school for his business. In the late 1950s, Laughlin moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, to open his first casino, the "101 Club," which he managed until 1964.

That period he had a flight with his private plane over the area where Davis Dam was being constructed and then Laughlin got a chance to observe the area from a different angle. Actually, it was the first time that he anticipated the potential of the area as a future resort destination. Thus, he purchased a shuttered riverfront motel for US$250,000, an investment that proved to be bankable two years later. Actually, it's become a resort known for its many gaming, entertainment and water recreation opportunities. First, the area was called "Laughlin" by a local post officer and eventually the town was named after him, i.e., Laughlin town of Nevada. The area has since been witnessing an ongoing expansion that still lasts. A self-proclaimed workaholic, Laughlin still manages the day-to-day operations of his business and remains down-to-earth person despite his wealth.
