In 1994 Daniel and his two brothers Dirk and Robert inherited the family fortune. Their father sold 95% of the business to Forstmann Little for $1.4 billion. The brothers formed Ziff Brothers Investments in New York City. They invested their inheritances in real estate, commodities, debt, equities, hedge funds, and private equity. They received 10% in Och-Ziff Capital management and the company went public in 2007. Daniel's wife Leslie is on the boards for Rosie's Theater Kids and the American Ballet Theatre.
