Andreas and his twin brother Thomas founded the general drug company Hexal AG in 1986 and built it up to become Germany's 2nd largest generic drug producer. Andreas and Thomas sold Hexal and their 67.7% share of U.S. Eon Labs to Novartis for $7.5 billion. Since the sale the brothers have been investing in biotechnology and health companies which include a private bank Sudwestbank. They established a neuroscience research center in Frankfurt in 2008 named after their father Ernst Struengmann. Andreas Struengmann studied medicine in Freiburg and worked as a doctor in South Africa. He took an executive position at Sandoz which is a division of Novartis. Andreas lives in Tegernsee, Germany and is married with two children.
