What is Gulshan Bhatia's Net Worth?

Gulshan Bhatia is a Tanzanian hotelier and accomplished businesswoman who has a net worth of $90 million. Born in Tanzania in 1933, she was only 12 when she dropped out of school to take care of her ill father´s textile business. During 1976 Tanzania was under great political unrest so she fled with her husband and their four kids to the United Kingdom. Even though she did not speak English at that time, Bhatia spent her life's savings to buy a Bed & Breakfast for £190,000 and rented each room for £3 a night. Having lost her husband at the time, she had to take over the business and worked 16 hours every day. Later on, Bhatia acquired five hotels in Paddington, three of which she sold to buy the GWR Hotel for £10 million in 1986.

In 1990, she also acquired the Holiday Inn Gatwick Hotel. This earned her a great reputation among the Brits as she became the first female to head a UK franchise with a Holiday Inn license. In 1998, Bhatia went on to buy the Grand Hotel in Bayswater for £16.5 million as well as the famous Waldorf Hotel in London for £175 million in 2007. Being an old woman, she has recently handed over the business to her son Asif. Bhatia is a conservative woman that refuses to use cell phones, computers and even calculators. Until a couple years ago, she was driving an old Mercedes Benz she has had for sixteen years.
