What Is Jon Andersen's Net Worth?
Jon Andersen is an American professional wrestler, former strongman competitor, professional bodybuilder, author, and fitness coach who has a net worth of $500 thousand.
Jon Andersen is unusual among strength athletes for reaching the professional level in three separate disciplines. He first established himself as an internationally ranked strongman, then transitioned into professional wrestling, where he competed extensively in Japan and Mexico under names including Jon Strongman, Strong Man, and "The Firewall" Jon Rekon. Later in life, he reinvented himself once again and earned professional status as an IFBB bodybuilder.
Andersen's wrestling career included appearances for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, Inoki Genome Federation, Pro Wrestling Revolution, and Lucha Libre USA. In New Japan, he formed the tag team Muscle Orchestra with Manabu Nakanishi, and the pair received a major Japanese wrestling award in 2010. Outside competition, Andersen developed the Deep Water training philosophy, which became the basis for books, workout programs, coaching, and motivational speaking.
Early Life
Jon Andersen-Reel was born on January 8, 1972, in San Francisco, California. Andersen has described himself as an overweight and unathletic child who struggled with low self-esteem, dyslexia, and bullying.
As a teenager, he became increasingly committed to weight training and physical development. What initially began as an attempt to transform his body eventually became an obsession with strength, conditioning, and pushing himself beyond conventional limits.
That approach would become the foundation of what Andersen later called the Deep Water Method, a philosophy based on deliberately placing oneself in difficult situations and developing the discipline to continue when quitting would be easier.
Strongman Career
Andersen began competing seriously in strongman events in the early 2000s and progressed extraordinarily quickly. He won New Mexico's Strongest Man competition in 2002 and earned professional status after winning the Azalea Festival strongman competition in 2003.
Later that year, Andersen achieved the biggest individual victory of his strongman career when he won the North American Strongest Man Championship.
He subsequently joined the International Federation of Strength Athletes and competed against elite strongmen around the world. Andersen represented the United States in international team competitions and finished second with Team USA at the 2005 IFSA World Team Championships.
His individual results included podium finishes at events in the United States and Europe. Andersen competed in disciplines involving enormous deadlifts, presses, carries, vehicle pulls, and other tests of strength and endurance. At his peak, he was considered one of the top American strongmen and competed at a body weight of roughly 300 pounds.
A serious back injury eventually helped bring his strongman career to an end and pushed Andersen toward his next professional challenge.
Professional Wrestling
Andersen began training as a professional wrestler at the All Pro Wrestling Bootcamp and made his debut in 2003, initially wrestling part-time while continuing his strongman career.
After leaving strongman competition, he devoted considerably more attention to wrestling. His extraordinary physique made him an obvious attraction, particularly in international promotions that had a history of featuring legitimate strength athletes.
Andersen wrestled in Mexico for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre under the name Strong Man. He debuted for CMLL in 2009 and worked with some of the promotion's biggest performers, including Shocker, Héctor Garza, Último Guerrero, and MÃstico.
His most prominent wrestling run came in Japan with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Andersen entered the 2010 New Japan Cup and later competed in the prestigious G1 Climax tournament.
He found particular success teaming with veteran Japanese wrestler Manabu Nakanishi. The two muscular heavyweights became known as Muscle Orchestra and competed for the IWGP Tag Team Championship on several occasions. In 2010, Tokyo Sports named Andersen and Nakanishi its Best Tag Team.
Andersen also competed at New Japan's "Wrestle Kingdom V" at the Tokyo Dome and returned for "Wrestle Kingdom 7" in 2013.
"The Firewall" Jon Rekon
American television viewers may be more familiar with Andersen from his run in Lucha Libre USA, which aired on MTV2.
Beginning in 2011, Andersen performed for the promotion as "The Firewall" Jon Rekon. He was presented as a member of the villainous faction The Right and teamed with Canadian wrestler Petey Williams.
Rekon and Williams won the Lucha Libre USA Tag Team Championship, giving Andersen another championship during his wrestling career.
He also won the Pro Wrestling Revolution Tag Team Championship alongside Misterioso II.
Andersen later worked again for Antonio Inoki's Inoki Genome Federation. In 2014, he participated in the unusual "Collision in Pyongyang" wrestling event in North Korea, teaming with former NFL player and professional wrestler Bob Sapp.
Andersen continued making occasional wrestling appearances before ultimately retiring from professional wrestling.
Bodybuilding Career
After already reaching the professional level in strongman and wrestling, Andersen turned his attention to competitive bodybuilding in his 40s.
Despite beginning much later than most elite bodybuilders, he progressed extremely quickly. Andersen earned his IFBB professional status after competing in only a small number of bodybuilding contests.
He then placed in the top five in his professional bodybuilding debut, an impressive achievement for an athlete who had spent most of his career training primarily for strength and professional wrestling rather than physique competition.
Andersen continued competing as an IFBB professional into his late 40s. His bodybuilding career completed a rare progression from professional strongman to professional wrestler to professional bodybuilder.
Deep Water and Fitness Business
Andersen eventually turned the training and mental approach he had developed across his athletic careers into the Deep Water Method.
Deep Water combines high-volume strength training, conditioning, nutrition, and a broader philosophy centered on discipline and deliberately moving beyond one's comfort zone. Andersen has promoted the system through training programs, online coaching, seminars, and books.
He is the author of "Deep Water: Overcoming the Waves of Life" and "FUEL: The Cycle of Greatness." His writing combines training and nutrition advice with lessons drawn from his experiences in strength sports and professional wrestling.
Andersen also opened a training facility and developed a coaching business serving athletes and other clients. He has continued working as a fitness coach, author, motivational speaker, and online personality, allowing him to turn his decades of competitive experience into a career beyond the strongman platform, wrestling ring, and bodybuilding stage.
