Heath Slater developed into one of WWE's most dependable utility performers. He could work as a villain, comedy act, tag-team partner, enhancement opponent, or underdog babyface depending on what the show needed. His most popular storyline came in 2016, when his "I got kids" free-agent character unexpectedly connected with fans and led to him teaming with Rhyno to become the inaugural WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Early Life

Heath Wallace Miller III was born on July 15, 1983, in Pineville, West Virginia. He grew up in West Virginia and developed an interest in professional wrestling at a young age.

Miller trained at Curtis Hughes' World Wrestling Alliance 4 wrestling school in Georgia. He began wrestling professionally in the mid-2000s under names including Heath Miller and Sebastian Slater before signing with WWE. His early years included work on the independent circuit and in WWE developmental territories, where he developed the personality-heavy style that later made him useful on national television.

WWE Developmental and NXT

Slater signed with WWE in 2006 and spent several years in developmental. He wrestled in Deep South Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling, where he won the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship, FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship, and FCW Florida Tag Team Championship.

In 2010, Slater was part of the first season of WWE's original "NXT" competition series. That version of "NXT" was built around rookies paired with established WWE pros. Slater did not win the competition, but the season became historically important because it produced The Nexus, one of WWE's most memorable factions of the early 2010s.

The Nexus, The Corre, and Tag Team Success

Heath Slater debuted on WWE's main roster in 2010 as a member of The Nexus. The group, led by Wade Barrett, made a shocking debut by attacking John Cena, CM Punk, WWE officials, and the ring itself on "Raw." The angle immediately made the former "NXT" rookies part of a major storyline.

Slater became a three-time WWE Tag Team Champion with Justin Gabriel during his time connected to The Nexus and The Corre. Their high-flying, athletic tag team gave Slater his first real championship résumé in WWE.

After The Corre ended, Slater moved into a comedy-rocker character known as "The One-Man Band." That gimmick eventually led to 3MB, a comedic rock-band stable with Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal. At the time, the group was mostly used for comedy and undercard matches, but it became more interesting in hindsight because both McIntyre and Mahal later became WWE Champions.

Rhyno and the "I Got Kids" Storyline

Slater's most beloved WWE run came in 2016 after the brand split. In storyline, he was not selected by either "Raw" or "SmackDown," leaving him as a free agent begging for a contract. His repeated line that he needed a job because "I got kids" became a fan-favorite catchphrase.

The storyline paired him with veteran wrestler Rhyno. Together, Heath Slater and Rhyno entered the tournament to crown the first WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions. They won the tournament at "Backlash" in 2016, giving Slater a contract and one of the best underdog moments of his WWE career.

The Slater/Rhyno partnership lasted beyond the title win and became one of the more popular comedy-babyface teams of that period. Slater later moved to "Raw" and continued appearing in tag-team, comedy, and lower-card roles. In 2019, he briefly won the WWE 24/7 Championship.

Impact/TNA and Independent Wrestling

WWE released Slater in April 2020 during a round of pandemic-era budget cuts. He made one final WWE appearance that summer in an emotional segment with former 3MB partner Drew McIntyre, who by then had become WWE Champion.

Slater then joined Impact Wrestling under the shortened ring name Heath. His Impact run reunited him with Rhino and echoed their WWE storyline, with Heath again fighting to earn a contract. After an injury slowed his early Impact momentum, he returned and resumed teaming with Rhino.

In 2022, Heath and Rhino defeated The Kingdom to win the Impact World Tag Team Championship. They held the titles for a short reign before losing them to the Motor City Machine Guns. Heath left Impact in 2023 and continued taking independent bookings.
