Early Life

Michael Akpovie Olise was born on December 12, 2001, in London, England. His family background made him eligible to represent several countries internationally, although he ultimately chose France.

Olise spent time in the youth academies of several of England's biggest clubs. He was with Arsenal as a child and later spent years in Chelsea's academy before joining Manchester City's youth setup. After leaving Manchester City, he eventually entered Reading's academy.

His younger brother, Richard Olise, also became a professional soccer player.

Reading

Olise made his professional debut for Reading in the English Championship in March 2019 while still a teenager.

He became a regular during the 2020-21 season and emerged as one of the most highly regarded young players outside the Premier League. Operating as an attacking midfielder or winger, Olise combined close control and dribbling ability with an unusual talent for creating chances for teammates.

His breakout campaign produced seven goals and 12 assists in league competition. The English Football League named him its Young Player of the Season, and he was also selected for the Championship Team of the Season.

That performance attracted interest from Premier League clubs, and Crystal Palace activated a release clause in his contract in the summer of 2021.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace signed Olise from Reading in July 2021.

He initially worked his way into the lineup under manager Patrick Vieira before becoming a central part of Palace's attack. Olise developed an especially effective partnership with fellow attacking players Eberechi Eze and Wilfried Zaha.

During the 2022-23 Premier League season, Olise recorded 11 assists, becoming the first Palace player to reach double figures in assists during a single Premier League campaign.

During the 2024-25 Bundesliga season, Olise scored 12 goals and supplied a league-leading 15 assists. He created more shooting opportunities for teammates than any other Bundesliga player and helped Bayern win the league championship in his first season in Germany.

Olise improved again during the 2025-26 campaign. He scored 15 league goals and registered 19 assists, once again leading the Bundesliga in assists. The 19 assists represented one of the highest single-season totals recorded in the league in decades.

Bayern won the Bundesliga and German Cup double, with Olise assisting Harry Kane's opening goal in the German Cup final against Stuttgart.

His reported base salary is €13.51 million per year, equal to roughly €260,000 per week before bonuses. Performance incentives can add more than €3 million to his annual compensation.

Over the full five years, his base Bayern salary alone is worth roughly €67.5 million.
