Erasmo Ramírez has enjoyed an unusually long Major League Baseball career, appearing in the majors in 14 consecutive seasons from 2012 through 2025. Early Life

Erasmo José Ramírez Olivera was born on May 2, 1990, in Rivas, Nicaragua. The Seattle Mariners signed him as an international free agent in September 2007, when he was 17 years old.

Ramírez began his professional career in the Venezuelan Summer League. He emerged as a legitimate prospect in 2009, going 11-1 with a remarkable 0.51 ERA while leading the league in ERA, wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched. He was named both the league's Most Valuable Pitcher and Most Valuable Player, as well as the Mariners' Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

He moved to the United States in 2010 and posted a 2.97 ERA for the Clinton LumberKings while earning Midwest League midseason and postseason All-Star honors. Ramírez advanced through Double-A and Triple-A in 2011 and entered the following season on Seattle's major league roster.

MLB Career

Ramírez made his MLB debut for the Mariners on April 9, 2012, at the age of 21. He initially pitched out of the bullpen before moving into the rotation and finished his rookie season with a 3.36 ERA over 59 innings. Over the next two seasons, he moved between Seattle and Triple-A Tacoma while receiving periodic opportunities in the Mariners' starting rotation.

In March 2015, Seattle traded Ramírez to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for pitcher Mike Montgomery. After a difficult first two appearances with Tampa Bay, Ramírez settled into the rotation and produced his strongest season. He went 11-6 with a 3.75 ERA across a career-high 163 1/3 innings and 27 starts. At one point, he carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the New York Yankees.

Tampa Bay shifted Ramírez primarily to the bullpen in 2016. He made a team-high 64 appearances and threw 85 innings as a reliever, the most in the American League that season. His ability to pitch multiple innings made him particularly valuable in a swingman role.

Washington brought Ramírez back for 2023, though he struggled during the first half of the season and was released in June. He quickly returned to Tampa Bay and spent portions of both 2023 and 2024 with the Rays and their Triple-A affiliate.

Ramírez signed a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins in 2025. After missing much of the first half because of a shoulder injury, he returned to the majors in August and posted a 2.45 ERA over nine relief appearances.

Ramírez has also represented Nicaragua in international competition, including the World Baseball Classic. In 2026, he again pitched for Nicaragua in the tournament before continuing his professional career in Mexico and briefly joining the Colorado Rockies organization.
