Early Life and Education
Tadej Pogačar was born on September 21, 1998 in Ljubljana, Slovenia to Marjeta and Mirko. He is the third of four siblings and was raised in Klanec, north of Ljubljana.
Junior Career
At the age of nine, Pogačar followed the path of his older brother Tilen in joining the cycling club Rog-Ljubljana. He cycled for the team from 2017 to 2018. In the latter year, Pogačar rode for the Slovenian national team and won the Tour de l'Avenir.
UAE Team Emirates XRG
Pogačar joined UAE Team Emirates for the 2019 season. With the team, he had his first victory at the Volta ao Algarve. A few months later, Pogačar became the youngest cyclist ever to win a UCI WorldTour stage race, which he did at the Tour of California. In the summer of 2019, Pogačar made his Grand Tour stage debut at the Vuelta a España, where he finished third overall and won the young rider classification. Pogačar had a very successful season in 2020, beginning with a win at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. He went on to make his Tour de France debut in August, claiming his first Tour stage win in the process. Pogačar took two more stage wins and ended up winning the race, becoming the first Slovenian ever to win the Tour. He continued his success in 2021, winning the UAE Tour, the Tirreno-Adriatico, the Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and the Tour of Slovenia before claiming his second consecutive Tour de France. Following the Tour, Pogačar won the bronze medal in the men's individual road race at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Toward the end of 2021, he won his first Il Lombardia.

Pogačar began the 2022 season by successfully defending his UAE Tour title. He went on to successfully defend his Tirreno-Adriatico title, as well, and to win the Strade Bianche. In his third Tour de France, Pogačar fought a tough battle with Jonas Vingegaard and ended up finishing runner-up to the Dane. Later in the year, he won the GP Montréal, the Tre Valli Varesine, and his second consecutive Il Lombardia. Pogačar finished the 2022 season with 16 total wins, the most for the season in the men's peloton. He had another prolific season in 2023, starting with wins at the Jaén Paraiso Interior, the Vuelta a Andalucía, and the Paris-Nice. Pogačar subsequently took a podium finish at the E3 Saxo Classic and won the Tour of Flanders. He went on to win the Amstel Gold Race and La Flèche Wallonne, giving him career victories in all three Ardennes classics. Although he suffered a fractured wrist in a crash at the Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Pogačar had surgery and was able to return for the Tour de France, where he again finished second to Vingegaard. He concluded the 2023 season by winning his third consecutive Il Lombardia.
Pogačar had a sensational and historic season in 2024, kicking things off by winning the Strade Bianche and then the Volta a Catalunya. He subsequently won the Liège-Bastogne-Liège and claimed a huge victory at the Giro d'Italia. In the Tour de France, Pogačar won six stages en route to his third career Tour win. He followed that by winning the GP Montréal and his first UCI Road World Championships. With the 2024 Giro, Tour, and World Championships titles, Pogačar became just the third male cyclist ever to claim the Triple Crown of Cycling in the same year. He finished the season by winning his fourth Il Lombardia title, the first person to win that many in over 75 years. Pogačar's total wins in 2024 amounted to 25, with 24 at the WorldTour level.
