He was a middle linebacker who played at Crestwood High School. Lambert played his college football for Kent State. He was drafted #46 overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1974 NFL Draft and played his entire career for the Steelers until 1984.
During his career Lambert was a four time Super Bowl champion. He made the Pro Bowl nine consecutive years from 1975 to 1983 and was a six time first-team All-Pro and a two time second-team All-Pro. He was a two time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and was also the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Lambert is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team, the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team, the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team, and the NFL 1970s All-Decade Team. He is also a member of the Pro Football hall of Fame.
