We here at Celebrity Net Worth are constantly working to make the site bigger, better, faster and more fun for our visitors. A lot of of the changes we make are so subtle that you probably don't even notice a difference from one day to the next. On the other hand, we always have a handful of larger, long term projects in motion that we hope will have a much bigger impact. Today we are excited to show off one of these longer term projects that has been in progress for about two months now. Today we are excited to unveil a brand new page where you can browse the Top 100 richest people in the world updated in real time. Before this page existed, in order to see the richest people in the world we had to create a list by hand several times a year. Part of the challenge of doing the lists this way was that the information would be outdated within a few weeks because these billionaires make and lose so much money, so quickly. A few months back we set about building an all in one page that would be a home for the latest information on all of the world's top billionaires that was never out of date. Top 100 Richest People In The World
After you look at the above link, you may be wondering why that took so much time and effort to build. The reason this was a challenge is that just a few months ago, our database had no idea how to compare and contrast all the net worths listed on the site. In other words, when we listed Bill Gates as having $66 billion and Warren Buffett $50 billion, our system had no idea that those two net worths were actual numbers and that one was bigger than the other. So the first major challenge we faced was coming up with a magic formula to teach our database what all this information meant. The second challenge was applying this magic formula across tens of thousands of pages on the site without causing some huge site crash or loss of data. Finally we had to build a way to pull all the data into one page that ranked and sorted the top 100 people based on real time information. Each of these three steps were by no means easy to pull off and I have to give a lot of credit to our awesome developer Don for making all the magic happen. Our Chief of Technology Alex also deserves a lot of credit for managing the project from start to finish.
