A little while back we posted a very interesting story here on Celebrity Net Worth that involved a Hong Kong billionaire who was not pleased with the person his daughter had chosen to date and subsequently marry. Did she marry a poor man who was potentially just interested money? No. Was the father upset because the she married a man who might be emotionally of physically abusive? Nope. Cecil Chao, a real estate billionaire, was upset because his beloved daughter Gigi had run off with another woman. And this wasn't just some random drunk weekend fling, this was a serious long-term committed relationship. Gigi ran off and married her girlfriend of seven years, Sean Eav. Cecil was so upset by the marriage that he immediately announced a rather unusual proposition to the men of planet earth. He offered to pay any man who stole Gigi away from her wife, $65 million cash. Well apparently this did not succeed because today Cecil announced that he was doubling the bounty.
I know what you're thinking. Gigi Chao must be a real dog if her billionaire dad needs to offer a fortune to convince a guy to date her. Well, she's actually quite pretty. Most men would probably be very happy to date/marry Gigi without any multi-million dollar bounty. But throw that in and you've got icing on your cake! Here is a photo of Gigi holding a couple of dogs (get it?):
Cecil Chao earned his billions as the owner of publicly traded company Cheuk Nang which develops property in Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia and Greater China. And you'd think a guy who is so against his daughter's gay marriage must be some sort of hard line Christian conservative right? Wrong. The 76 year tycoon once claimed to have slept with over 10,000 women. You'd think a guy with that many female conquests would understand his daughter's attraction to the finer gender! Cecil is a fixture at prominent public events and upper crust social circle parties. He nearly always has a new young girlfriend (or girlfriends) on his arm.
Gay issues are still slightly controversial in Hong Kong. Homosexuality wasn't decriminalized there until 1991 and Cecil appears to be in denial that the lesbian marriage even took place. He claimed at the time that the reports of his daughter's marriage were false and that Gigi was still a "single woman with both talents and looks who is devoted to her parents, generous and does volunteer work."
Right after Gigi got married back in late 2012, Cecil offered $65 million to any man who could successfully break up his daughter's marriage and win her heart. Cecil further explained "I don't mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind hearted. The $65 million bounty would go to any man who could successfully woo Gigi away from the lesbian lover. He also offered to help the successful suitor launch his own private business and invest the bounty money. Well, despite attracting more than 20,000 suitors, apparently none were manly enough to sweep Gigi off her feat and into a heterosexual relationship. So what did Cecil do? Double the bounty obviously! Earlier today, Cecil announced that he was now offering $130 million to any man who can successful win the heart of his lesbian daughter.
Even though she has the right to be absolutely furious at her father for turning her love life into a public spectacle, Gigi released a surprisingly upbeat statement: I don't think my dad's offering of any amount of money would be able to attract a man I would find attractive. I would be happy to befriend any man willing to donate huge amounts of money to my charity Faith in Love, provided they don't mind that I already have a wife. Third and lastly, thank you Daddy, I love you too."
So, men of the world, the challenge is on!
