Amateur Gold Prospector Finds Gigantic $320k Nugget Under A Bush

Typically when we hear the term "gold digger" we picture people like Anna Nicole Smith or Kevin Federline. on the other hand, there is another much more literal definition of "gold digger". There are people who are literally gold diggers. People who dig for gold. There are far fewer of these traditional "gold diggers" around today compared to say, California in 1849, but they still exist. Especially in places like rural Australia, where amateur prospectors are stumbling onto very valuable gold nuggets in their backyards every day. And one anonymous prospector just found a nugget of gold that could be worth as much as $320,000!

Earlier this week, a prospector from the rural mining town of Ballarat, Australia was out looking for gold with his brand new state of the art Minelab GPX-5000 metal detector. The Minelab GPX-5000 claims to be the best detector in the world and after what happened in Ballarat, that might just be true. As the prospector was searching around an undeveloped bushy area, the detector started to give off a strong signal. The signal was so strong that the prospector assumed he was picking up a piece of junk like the hood of a car, but he kept investigating anyway. As he dug around the bush, the prospector realized he wasn't detecting a car hood at all, he had in fact literally struck gold. With a little bit of digging, the prospector quickly realized that this was not a normal gold nugget. It actually turned out to be one of the largest nuggets ever found in history! When it was all said and done, the lucky prospector pulled out a y-shaped chunk of gold that was eight inches long and weighed 12 pounds. The nugget was resting just two feet underground. When the nugget goes up for auction later this month, it's expected to fetch at least $320,000!

The nugget was so big, that when the prospector ran home to show his wife, she didn't believe it was real. It was simply too big to be a real piece of gold. Local dealers said the find could not have happened to a nicer and more deserving couple. Apparently the prospector is planning to use the money to to pay off all their debts and take his wife on a nice vacation. Personally, I would buy a Ferrari and take a trip to Fiji. What would you do if you found $320,000 worth of gold in your back yard?
