One of the most mysterious Hollywood couples of recent memory has been Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Since their marriage more than five years ago back in 2006, the pair's relationship has had an element of tantalizing mystery, due to rumors of Tom Cruise "brainwashing" Katie Holmes into the Church of Scientology, and other rumors about their relationship. But now, the two with a combined net worth of $275 million are calling it quits, with representatives saying that the two are getting a divorce.
It's reported that the couple have prenuptial agreement, and that this would keep much of that $275 million over in Tom Cruise's bank account. He's said to have a net worth of $250 million while Katie Holmes has a relatively small $25 million to her name. There's also the matter of Tom and Katie's young daughter, Suri, who is six years old.

Whatever kind of agreement the two had before tying the knot, you can bet that they're both going to be doing OK financially in the face of this divorce. What isn't clear is how finalized the divorce proceedings are – as is the matter of whether or not divorce papers have even been filed. Still, it looks like this is Splitsville for Cruise and Holmes, especially since they haven't even been seen together publicly since way back in February, and Holmes wasn't seen at any of the recent premieres for Cruise's recent movie Rock of Ages.
So it looks like that prenup was a good idea after all. Otherwise this could have ranked as one of the most expensive celebrity divorces ever – expensive for Cruise, anyway, who did most of the earning (and working in general) over the past five years of the couple's marriage.
