Ioan Gruffudd is a Welsh actor who is probably best known for playing Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, in the 2005 and 2007 "Fantastic Four" films. He also played a young naval officer in James Cameron's blockbuster "Titanic" and earned critical acclaim in the late '90s for his lead role in the British historical drama series "Hornblower." Over the years, Gruffudd has appeared in a range of TV and film projects, including "King Arthur," "San Andreas," "Forever," and "Harrow."
Alice Evans is a British-American actress who gained recognition for her role in the French sitcom "Elisa Top Modele," followed by appearances in films such as "102 Dalmatians" and "Blackball." She has also worked steadily in British television and had guest roles on American series like "The Vampire Diaries."
The two actors met in 2000 on the set of "102 Dalmatians" and began a relationship shortly after. They got engaged in 2006 and married in 2007. During their marriage, they had two daughters, Ella and Elsie.

Unfortunately, by 2020, the Evans-Gruffudd union erupted much like the San Andreas fault, sending shockwaves and reverberations that are still rattling five years later. In the rubble, ongoing court filings reveal intimate financial details of an unusually public, strange, and sad post-divorce saga.

The Divorce and Early Financial Fallout
Gruffudd officially filed for divorce in March 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. At the time, Evans publicly claimed she was blindsided by his decision to leave her and their two daughters. The separation quickly turned acrimonious. In 2022, Gruffudd was granted a domestic violence restraining order against Evans, which also extended to protect his new girlfriend, actress Bianca Wallace.
The divorce was finalized in 2023, but the litigation and financial disputes continued well beyond. According to court records, Gruffudd was ordered to pay Evans $10,000 per month in combined spousal and child support. Between 2021 and 2023, he paid her roughly $300,000. However, in May 2024, the payments stopped. They resumed four months later, but at a reduced rate of $4,500 per month—an amount that Evans claimed was nowhere near enough to meet her mounting expenses.
Ioan's Financial Swings
During their marriage, Gruffudd reportedly earned an average of $600,000 per year. In 2021, he made $486,000. But by 2022, his income plummeted to $51,000, before bouncing back to $219,000 in 2023. In a December 2022 court filing, Gruffudd claimed he was broke and had not worked in over a year. He said he was relying on Wallace to cover his rent and that he owed $71,000 in taxes to the French government.
He also requested court approval to sell the couple's former home in La Jolla, California, citing an inability to afford the $6,570 monthly mortgage. At the time, he claimed to have only $2,829 in his American bank accounts and £12,193 in the UK. He said he was paying $2,348 per month for health insurance for himself, Alice, and their daughters, and that he had no investment or retirement accounts with accessible funds.
Despite these claims, by January 2024, Gruffudd declared a net worth of $2.8 million and monthly earnings between $25,000 and $40,000—suggesting a significant rebound in his finances.
Alice's Financial Struggles
Evans, on the other hand, has consistently maintained that she is broke. In mid-2022, she launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for food, bills, and legal fees, ultimately collecting just over $5,000 of a $25,000 goal. In court filings, she has claimed to have no meaningful income and few assets. She disclosed borrowing $23,300 from friends, owing $5,825 in utility bills, and carrying at least $1,800 in credit card debt. Her monthly expenses reportedly total $9,370, including $2,500 for groceries, $650 for utilities, $600 for healthcare, and $2,995 for rent.
In July 2025, Evans revealed that she and her daughters had recently been evicted from their apartment after being yelled at by their landlord, partly because they could not afford the rent at the time and could not afford the $3-4,000 per month that is typical for the area. The situation got so bad that the daughters apparently texted their dad, essentially begging for help. The family found a new place, but it forced the girls to change schools. Evans described the situation as "rock bottom."
Conflicting Claims and a War of Receipts
In court filings, Gruffudd has argued that Evans is not as destitute as she claims. He alleged she earned $130,141 in 2024 and was on track to earn a similar amount in 2025. The figure included $74,500 in support from him, $23,000 in personal loans, $16,600 from convention appearances, $10,000 in residuals, and a few hundred dollars from Cameo. Here is a full list of how Alice broke down her 2024 income sources:
Evans further countered that her actual earnings—excluding support—were just $27,260, and that her expenses far exceeded her income. She maintained that her ex was painting a misleading picture, noting that even in months when support resumed, she was still falling short and relying on loans to survive. In one filing, she wrote:
"The children are confused as to why we are struggling so much while they see their father living lavishly on social media."
Ioan and girlfriend Bianca Wallace became engaged in 2024, married in April of this year, and just last month announced they were expecting their first child.
What began as a glamorous Hollywood pairing has devolved into a mix of sadness, bitterness, and financial regret—much like how you probably felt walking out of the theater if you paid for a ticket to "San Andreas."
