Roger Federer's Home: A $3,075/Night Home-Away-From-Home for the World #2

By on May 14, 2012 in ArticlesCelebrity Homes

Roger Federer is one of those athletes that seems to simply, quietly, dominate.  Handsome and friendly, the Swiss-born tennis star was ranked #1 in the world for 285 weeks, 237 of those weeks consecutively.  This is just one week shy of the record set by previous tennis great (and equally quiet player) Pete Sampras.  He has set a ridiculous number of tennis records, and is considered to be not only a great athlete, but an all-around nice person.  He has won the ATP Fan Favorite Award an unprecedented nine times, the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award (voted on by other players) seven times, and the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award.  He was also voted the second most trusted and respected person in the world in 2011, behind Nelson Mandela.  So, apparently, people still really like him even while he is kicking their butts on clay, grass, or hard court, since he excels on all three surfaces.  Most recently, he won top honors in Madrid, making it his 20th Masters win.  The tournament was marred by angry comments from #1 and #2 ranked Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal about the condition of the blue clay courts, so his quiet, brilliant win was a bit overshadowed.  The trophy places him back at #2 in the world, and he can now head back to his wife and twin girls in Switzerland for a well-deserved break.  Since he travels so much, he has homes all over the world, one of which is a reserved suite at the uber-posh Carlyle Hotel in New York City.

The suite on the 16th floor of the hotel costs him $3, 075 per night, and is styled to make him as comfortable as possible.  When in town for tournament play, the hotel supplies him with a plaque to track his progress, monogrammed pillows, and ever-ready round-the-clock service.  The décor is both masculine and funky, and seems slightly more hip and happening than what would be expected of the busy father of two.  However, since it is his home-away-from-home of choice, the hotel must be doing something right.
