Obama Family's New $7 Million Home Is Just A Few Miles From The White House

It may not be the White House, but the home Barack Obama and his family will be moving into next year is the envy of many people. Some who have closely observed the Obama presidency and who may not have been thrilled about the results of the presidential election may take a bit of comfort in the fact that the new Obama family home is just three miles from the White House.

The house was built in 1928 and has nine bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms. It was sold in 2014 for more than $5 million. President Obama has said he and his family will live in the Washington home after he departs 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in January 2017, a change from most former presidents.

"We're going to have to stay a couple of years in D.C. probably so Sasha can finish," he said in March about his youngest daughter. "Transferring someone in the middle of high school? Tough."

The Lockhart house is an 8,200-square-foot brick Tudor, and might cost $22,000 a month to rent, according to an estimate on the real estate website Zillow. It is currently valued at $7 million, according to D.C. tax assessments. It has a generous living room and dining room, a finished downstairs family room/media room, and an au-pair suite, which could be useful to the Obama family, since First Lady Michelle Obama's mother has been living with the family for years.

After eight years of the stress of running the free world, one can imagine that the Obama family will find solace and peace in the calming, neutral tones of the home's entryway and the main living spaces.

The kitchen is somewhat compact by the standards found in many multi-million dollar homes, but it is filled with all of the latest bells and whistles any high-end kitchen could provide.

If, by chance, the Obama family were to entertain President Trump and his family, they would no doubt be quite comfortable in this tastefully-appointed main living area.

Of course, when President and First Lady Michelle Obama just need time to unwind and reflect on all they have done over the years, this master suite is just the place to do that.

Who wouldn't want to soak in this large tub while admiring the beauty of this well-appointed master suite bathroom?

When the weather is ready, so, too, will be the Obama family and their guests to move their enjoyment of this spectacular home outside to this spacious back yard.

Whether or not you share the political views of President Obama, you can't deny that he and his family have earned a place in American history and are certainly deserving of this incredible home.
