Anne Hathaway seemed like she was going to make it through the starlet/ingénue phase without weathering any of the tabloid ups and downs of her young actress colleagues. Her "old-Hollywood" beauty, comic timing, and well-reviewed performances were enough to keep garnering her the proper type of headlines, and her uber-romantic relationship with Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri, seemed perfect. Then it turned out that her boyfriend was money laundering, among other creepy scams, and she was forced to move out of the swanky apartment they shared, endure numerous tabloid headlines, and basically buckle down under some intense public scrutiny. In other words, she became a whole lot more like her fellow actresses. She has been, understandably, a bit more cautious since then, both with what she does in public, and with whom she chooses to spend her time. Any recent headlines attached to her have been related to her upcoming film projects, such as "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Les Miserables", for which she recently chopped off all of her hair. She is currently engaged to actor Adam Shulman, and the two recently rented a relatively modest apartment in the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass – for the uninitiated) neighborhood of Brooklyn.
The 1,414 square foot, $6,400 per month apartment, houses two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and features attractive views of the surrounding area. The apartment, which is in a renovated prewar building known as, "The Clocktower", features 12-foot ceilings, hardwood floors, an open plan kitchen, walk-in closets, an office, and a laundry room. "The Clocktower" building features a 24-hour concierge, a gym, and a rooftop deck. The whole building feels like the perfect place for a bunch of stockbrokers, as opposed to an Oscar-nominated artist, but one gets the feeling that Ms. Hathaway is doing her best to remain more pragmatic in every aspect of her life.
