Rocker and songwriter Eric Clapton has something new to sing about: His new custom Ferrari. Clapton, apparently a big Ferrari fan from way back, bought the car for an undisclosed amount in the last few days. The name of Eric Clapton's car is the Sp12 EC – you get three guesses as to what the initials "EC" stand for and the first two don't count.

The Sp12 EC is "intended as an homage to the man and his career," which has spanned several decades in the music industry, with bands like Cream and Derek and the Dominoes followed by a successful solo career. The design was most closely predicated on the previous Ferrari model 12 BB. Eric Clapton has owned three 12 BBs over the years, so it would make sense to model a custom built Ferrari specifically for Eric Clapton after that vehicle. The car has been described by Ferrari as also having shades of the 458 Italia incorporated into its design.

As for the price of Eric Clapton's car, no one's saying. The amount isn't being publicized, but I've seen reports of other custom Ferrari's costing around $4 million – so it's safe to say that Clapton has paid at least that much.

And as for Clapton, his career has continued steadily since his late 60s and early 70s heyday. He is hugely popular in England, where he has played a variety of big concerts recently. He's also remained active in the United States, where he most recently appeared at a February tribute to Hubert Sumlin, the recently departed blues guitarist who is cited by Clapton as being a huge influence on his work.

So, start saving up your spare change now, and maybe you'll be able to afford a custom built Ferrari with your initials in the name. Or you could name it something cool, like "Thundersnake" or "Dragonstar." It's up to you!
