The Lotus 3-Eleven is the fastest and most expensive car produced by Lotus. This sports car comes in two versions and is limited to just 311 examples, as its name implies. Here is a closer look at this Amazing Car Of The Day: The Lotus 3-Eleven.
Lotus has become known for only selling small numbers of cars at a time, and the 3-Eleven is their first new car to be offered since 2009. This amazing car features a supercharged 3.5 liter Toyota V-6 engine borrowed from the Evora 400 which is capable of 456 horsepower. The 3-Eleven actually tested 10 seconds faster around the track than the Evora 400 that it was partially based on.
The two versions of the Lotus 3-Eleven are the Race variant, which is made exclusively for the track and has a six-speed sequential gearbox, and the street-legal Road version with a conventional manual transmission. Both roofless two-seaters have a 0 to 60 time of 3.0 seconds. The Race version has a top speed of 174 mph, while the Road version can actually get up to 180 mph.
The limited edition 3-Eleven was made from a new composite material that is 40 percent lighter than standard fiberglass. It was introduced at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and features a no-nonsense cockpit free of bells and whistles. The Race version weighs in at less than a ton and utilizes Cup 2 tires, while the Road version has Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Both types come with four piston AP brakes, and the Race version includes a fire extinguisher and a battery kill switch if things get out of hand.
This luxury sports car has been described as "an uncompromised manifestation of the Lotus spirit, providing an undiluted driving experience of legendary handling and blistering speed" by the carmaker. In the United Kingdom, the Road version starts at $129,000, while the Race variation costs $181.000.
