Waylett was discovered by casting agents when he was 11 years old. Although he initially auditioned for the role of Dudley Dursley, he was ultimately cast as Vincent Crabbe, one of Draco Malfoy's main henchmen. He made his screen debut in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (2001), reprising the role in "Chamber of Secrets" (2002), "Prisoner of Azkaban" (2004), "Goblet of Fire" (2005), "Order of the Phoenix" (2007), and "Half-Blood Prince" (2009).

Though not a lead character, Crabbe appeared regularly in classroom scenes, Quidditch matches, and as part of the antagonistic Slytherin trio. Waylett's acting career was derailed in 2009 when he was arrested for growing cannabis at his mother's home in Kilburn. Police initially pulled him over and found several bags of cannabis in his vehicle. A subsequent raid of the family home uncovered 10 marijuana plants under cultivation, which Waylett claimed were for personal use. He was charged with production of a controlled substance and, in July 2009, was sentenced to 120 hours of community service.

Due to the scandal, Waylett was not invited back to appear in the final two "Harry Potter" films, "Deathly Hallows – Part 1" (2010) and "Deathly Hallows – Part 2" (2011). His character was quietly written out of the series and replaced in key scenes by another Slytherin student, Blaise Zabini.

In 2012, Waylett faced far more serious legal consequences. He was arrested for participating in the 2011 England riots, which erupted in London and other cities following the police shooting of Mark Duggan. CCTV footage and photographs showed Waylett carrying a Molotov cocktail and looting from a pharmacy in Chalk Farm.
