What is Josh Klinghoffer's Net Worth?

Josh Klinghoffer is an American singer and musician who has a net worth of $10 million. Josh Klinghoffer is best known for serving as the guitarist of the rock band the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 2009 to 2019. He has also toured and recorded as a session musician with numerous other artists, and has released albums as both a solo artist, under the name Pluralone, and as the frontman of the band Dot Hacker.

Early Life

Josh Klinghoffer was born on October 3, 1979. He took to musical instruments at an early age, taking drum lessons when he was nine and also teaching himself how to play the guitar and keyboards. Klinghoffer dropped out of high school at the age of 15 to pursue his music career.

The Bicycle Thief

Klinghoffer joined his first band, the Bicycle Thief, in 1997. Its frontman was Bob Forrest, previously of the band Thelonious Monster. In 1999, the Bicycle Thief released its debut studio album, "You Come and Go Like a Pop Song." Klinghoffer contributed drums, guitar, keyboards, and lyrics to the album. Later albums by the Bicycle Thief include "California Clam Chowder" (2004), "Rare" (2014), and "Birthday Cake Rarities" (2020).

Work with John Frusciante

It was during his time with the Bicycle Thief that Klinghoffer met Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante. The pair began working together in 2002. Klinghoffer went on to appear on Frusciante's solo albums "Shadows Collide with People," "The Will to Death," "Inside of Emptiness," and "A Sphere in the Heart of Silence," all released in 2004. Also that year, he recorded the album "Automatic Writing" as a member of the rock supergroup Ataxia, which he formed with Frusciante and Fugazi bassist Joe Lally. Continuing his work with Frusciante, Klinghoffer appeared on the 2007 Ataxia album "AW II" and Frusciante's 2009 solo album "The Empyrean."

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Klinghoffer first joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the final few legs of their Stadium Arcadium tour in 2007. Three years later, having replaced Frusciante as the band's permanent guitarist, he joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the studio for the recording of the album "I'm with You." Released in the summer of 2011, the album was a major commercial hit, debuting at number one in 18 countries worldwide. In 2012, Klinghoffer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He released his second and final studio album with the band, "The Getaway," in mid-2016. Another commercial success, it debuted at number one in 10 different countries. Klinghoffer played his final show with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in late 2019 at a charity event in Los Angeles. He was fired the following month.

Dot Hacker

In 2008, Klinghoffer formed the experimental rock band Dot Hacker with Clint Walsh, Jonathan Hischke, and Eric Gardner. He serves as the main singer, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist. Dot Hacker released its self-titled debut EP as well as its debut studio album, "Inhibition," in 2012. In 2014, the band released the two-part album "How's Your Process? (Work)" and "How's Your Process? (Play)." Dot Hacker's third studio album, "Nº3," came out in early 2017.

Pluralone

Using the name Pluralone, Klinghoffer released his first solo singles in 2019. They were English-language covers of the Italian song "Io Sono Quel Che Sono" and the Portuguese song "Menina Mulher Da Pele Preta." He continued to record solo music under the name Pluralone, with his debut solo album, "To Be One with You," coming out in late 2019. That was followed by "I Don't Feel Well" in 2020 and "This is the Show" in 2022.

Other Collaborations

Among his numerous other musical collaborations, Klinghoffer contributed to Golden Shoulders' albums "Let My Burden Be" (2002), "Friendship is Deep" (2004), "Get Reasonable" (2009), and "Could This Be the End" (2019). Between 2006 and 2008, he recorded and toured with the soul duo Gnarls Barkley. Later, in 2021, Klinghoffer began touring and doing session work with Pearl Jam. He went on to tour with Jane's Addiction in 2023. Over the years, Klinghoffer has also collaborated with such artists as Iggy Pop, Sparks, Butthole Surfers, Beck, and Redd Kross. In 2025, he and his former Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmate Chad Smith contributed to the album "Who Believes in Angels?" by Elton John and Brandi Carlile.

Car Collision and Charges

In 2024, Klinghoffer was driving in Alhambra, California when he accidentally collided into a pedestrian named Israel Sanchez. Severely injured, Sanchez passed away shortly after the incident. Klinghoffer was sued for negligence and wrongful death, with the family of the deceased claiming he had been using his phone at the time of the collision. He was charged with vehicular manslaughter, but without gross negligence, as it was determined he had simply failed to yield. In the spring of 2025, Klinghoffer reached a plea deal that included one year of informal probation, 60 days of community labor, completion of a driver safety class, and a payment of restitution.
