Joining the show in its third season, he played Ryan Lafferty, the illegitimate son of Tom Skerritt's character William Walker. After serving in a guest role that season, Grimes became a member of the main cast for the fourth season of "Brothers & Sisters." His next role was in the FX television film "Outlaw Country," co-starring Mary Steenburgen and John Hawkes. It premiered in the summer of 2012. The following year, Grimes played vampire James Kent in six episodes of the sixth season of the HBO series "True Blood."
