Early Life and Education

Jack Patterson was born on June 6, 1986 in Birkenhead, England to Therese and Richard. He has a younger brother named Luke. Patterson was educated at Calday Grammar School and Jesus College, Cambridge, studying architecture at the latter.

While studying at Jesus College, Cambridge in 2008, Patterson met fellow student and musician Grace Chatto, who was in a classical string quartet. He began creating samples using recordings of her string quartet, and he then recruited his younger brother Luke to join on drums. Neil Amin-Smith joined on violin and piano, and Ssegawa-Ssekintu Kiwanuka joined as a vocalist. The group became the electronic music group Clean Bandit, with Jack Patterson as producer and principal songwriter. Clean Bandit released its debut single, "A+E," in late 2012. Featuring vocals from Kandaka Moore and Nikki Cislyn, the single cracked the UK singles chart at number 100. In 2013, Clean Bandit released "Mozart's House," featuring Love Ssega, and "Dust Clears," featuring Noonie Bao. The former reached number 17 on the UK singles chart.
