Early Life and Education

Karan Aujla was born Jaskaran Singh Aujla on January 18, 1997 in Ghurala, Punjab, India to Rajinder and Balwinder. He lost both of his parents by the time he was 14, and he was subsequently raised by his sisters and uncle. In 2014, Aujla moved to Canada and lived with his sister in Vancouver. He attended Burnaby South Secondary and did part-time work as a longshoreman in Surrey.

Music Career

Aujla began his career in 2014 as a songwriter, with his first credit being on Jassi Gill's song "Range." Over the ensuing years, he wrote songs for such artists as Gagan Kokri, Elly Mangat, and Gagan Tung. Aujla released his first single as a lead artist, "Property of Punjab," in 2016. His subsequent singles included "Shit Talk," "6 Bande," "Alcohol 2," and "Unity." Aujla had his career breakthrough in 2018 with the single "Don't Worry," featuring Gurlez Akhtar. In addition to becoming his first song to enter the UK Asian chart, it became massively popular online, with its music video amassing over 100 million views on YouTube. Aujla followed that with several more hit songs, including "Rim vs Jhanjhar," "Na Na Na," "No Need," "Don't Look," "Hint," and "Chitta Kurta." He also sang the title track of the 2019 action film "Sikander 2." Aujla's profile continued to rise in the 2020s, starting with his single "Jhanjar." The music video for the song was viewed over five million times in a 24-hour period on YouTube. Aujla had another hit with the song "Red Eyes," a collaboration with Gurlez Akhtar. It debuted at number eight on the UK Asian chart. Further hits followed with "Sheikh," "Let 'em Play," and "So Far," the last of which peaked in the top five on the UK Asian chart.

In August of 2020, Aujla released the single "Kya Baat Aa," which became a hit in India. He went on to release such singles as "Adhiya," "Chithiyan," "Ek Din," and "Hukam." In September of 2021, Aujla released his first studio album, "Bacthafucup." Supported by the hit single "Chu Gon Do?," the album reached number 19 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart. Aujla went on to release his first EP, "Way Ahead," in 2022. The next year, he released his second EP, "Four You," and his second studio album, "Making Memories." Both were collaborations with Canadian producer Ikky. "Making Memories" was particularly successful, peaking at number five on the Canadian Albums chart. In early 2024, Aujla released the album "Street Dreams," a collaboration with Mumbai rapper Divine. Later in the year, he released the EP "Four Me" and had success with such singles as "Tauba Tauba" and "Wavy," the former from the Hindi film "Bad Newz." Aujla released his next album, "P-Pop Culture," in 2025. It became his most commercially successful album yet, debuting at number three on the Canadian Albums chart and number one on Spotify in India and Pakistan. The album's singles "MF Gabhru!" and "For a Reason" were both certified Gold by Music Canada.

Controversies

Aujla has caused some controversy in India related to lyrics and stage behavior that have been considered harmful. On several occasions, he has elicited complaints from locals and authorities, including the Chandigarh Police and the Punjab State Commission for Women. Ahead of Aujla's show in Chandigarh in late 2024, professor and Chandigarh resident Pandit Rao Dharennavar filed a police complaint against Aujla accusing him of promoting drugs and violence in his songs, and exhorted him to refrain from performing certain tracks during his show.

Other Ventures

In late 2021, Aujla launched his own clothing and merchandise brand, called Hukam. Later, in 2024, he produced a short film as part of the global program "Apple Music: Up Next."

Personal Life

In 2023, Aujla married his girlfriend, Palak.
