Coco Jones was born Courtney Jones on January 4, 1998 in Columbia, South Carolina to singer Javonda Jones and former NFL player Mike Jones. She has three younger siblings named Mike Jr., Aja, and Steven.

Disney Child Star

Jones gained recognition in 2010 when she competed on the third season of the Radio Disney singing competition series "Radio Disney's Next Big Thing," where she came in second place. She subsequently landed a recurring role on the Disney Channel sketch comedy series "So Random!," which aired from 2011 to 2012. In the latter year, Jones starred alongside Tyler James Williams and Trevor Jackson in the Disney Channel Original Movie "Let it Shine," a musical reimagining of "Cyrano de Bergerac." Also in 2012, Jones began a recurring role on the Disney Channel sitcom "Good Luck Charlie," a role she played during the show's final two seasons through early 2014.

Further Acting

In 2014, Jones appeared in an episode of the final season of the TV Land sitcom "The Exes." Two years later, she starred in the film "Grandma's House." Jones followed that with a supporting role in the period film "Flock of Four," which came out in 2018. That same year, she played the recurring role of Jayla in the second season of the Facebook Watch teen drama series "Five Points." Jones went on to have a supporting part in the Netflix black comedy horror film "Vampires vs. the Bronx" in 2020. Jones released her self-titled debut EP in 2010. The following year, she released the non-album single "Stand Up," and in 2012 she released the singles "What I Said" and "Holla at the DJ." The latter was included on her second EP, "Made Of," which came out in 2013 on Hollywood Records. Jones released her third EP, "Let Me Check It," in late 2017. That was followed by "H.D.W.Y." in 2019. Jones had her commercial breakthrough in 2022 with her single "ICU," which reached number 62 on the Billboard 100 and number 16 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and was eventually certified Platinum by the RIAA. For the song, which was featured on her EP "What I Didn't Tell You," Jones won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance.

In 2023, Jones collaborated with BJ the Chicago Kid on the song "Spend the Night" and was featured on the song "Moment of Your Life" by Brent Faiyaz. The latter was especially popular, receiving a Gold certification from the RIAA. Jones had another Gold-certified single in 2024 with "Here We Go (Uh Oh)," which went on to receive two Grammy Award nominations. That song, plus the collaborative track "Most Beautiful Design" and the singles "Taste" and "You," were included on Jones's debut studio album, "Why Not More?" Released by Def Jam Recordings in the spring of 2025, "Why Not More?" was a critical and commercial success, reaching number 59 on the Billboard 200 and number 16 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Other Appearances

Among her various other media appearances, Jones hosted the YouTube series "T and Coco" from 2021 to 2022. Later, in 2025, she served as an advisor for John Legend's team on the 27th season of the NBC singing competition series "The Voice."
