Known for his rap metal style, Ghostemane has released numerous solo and collaborative albums and EPs since 2015. Early Life

Ghostemane, whose real name is Eric Whitney, was born on April 15, 1991, in Lake Worth, Florida, and grew up in West Palm Beach. He was drawn to hardcore punk music as a teenager and played the guitar in a number of punk bands. Whitney became interested in rap music when one of his bandmates introduced him to Memphis rap.

Career Beginnings

Whitney had various B2B sales jobs before he began his career in the music industry. In 2015, he moved to Los Angeles, California, and launched his music career under the rap name Ill Bizz. Whitney also became a member of the hip hop collective Schemaposse. During this time, his rap metal music gained recognition on the audio streaming service SoundCloud.

Albums and EPs as Ghostemane

In 2015, Whitney released his first two solo studio albums under the rap name Ghostemane: "Oogabooga" and "For the Aspiring Occultist." He also released a trio of EPs that year and two collaborative albums, the first with DJ Killa C and the second with JGRXXN and Nedarb Nagrom. In 2016, Ghostemane released three studio albums: "Rituals," "Blackmage," and "Plagues." Additionally, with Lil Peep and JGRXXN, he released the albums "Elemental" and "Get to Know Us," and with Nedarb Nagrom, he released the EPs "DÆMON" and "DÆMON II." Ghostemane's releases in 2017 included the studio album "Hexada" and the EP "DÆMON III." Also that year, the art collective TRASH GANG released a cartoon music video for Ghostemane's single "Mercury: Retrograde," which became a major hit online.

In 2018, Ghostemane released the studio album "N/O/I/S/E." He went on to release a number of EPs in 2019, including the solo EPs "Fear Network" and "Opium" and the collaborative EPs "HUMAN ERR0R (with Parv0) and "Digital Demons" (with Nolife). Ghostemane also put out the compilation album "Hiadica." He released his eighth studio album, "ANTI-ICON," in 2020. The following year, Ghostemane released the collaborative EP "LXRDMAGE" with Scarlxrd and the solo EP "Fear Network II."

Other Solo Projects

Beyond Ghostemane, Whitney has released a myriad of solo albums under other pseudonyms. As GASM, he released the noise music album "Www" in 2018, and as Baader-Meinhof, a lo-fi black metal act, he released the EPs "Evil Beneath a Veil of Justice" and "Baader-Meinhof" in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Also in 2019, Whitney released the EP "Technomancer" as the electronic music act SWEARR. Among his other stage names is Eric Ghoste.

Musical Style and Influences

Ghostemane's style is known for its combination of rap metal, punk, and industrial music. His lyrics are characterized by themes of depression, death, occultism, and nihilism. Ghostemane has said that his greatest musical influence is the Swedish extreme metal band Bathory. He has also cited among his influences the hip hop groups Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Three 6 Mafia, and Outkast.
