Richard Simmons' Longtime Hollywood Hills Mansion – Where He Vanished For A Decade – Hits the Market for $7 Million

Nearly a year after the death of fitness icon Richard Simmons, his longtime Hollywood Hills home has been listed for sale with an asking price of $6,999,999. The gated colonial-style estate, located just above the Sunset Strip, served as Simmons' private sanctuary for over four decades and was the site of his death in July 2024 at the age of 76.

Simmons purchased the property in 1982 for $670,000. Built in 1937, the 4-bedroom, 5-bathroom residence spans just over 4,000 square feet and sits on a half-acre lot. The home includes a circular swimming pool, pool house, terraced side yard, music room, guest suite, den, and an updated kitchen. The expansive primary suite stretches across two levels and features a dressing room, large bathroom, and a private gym equipped with Keiser machines. A separate maid's quarters comes complete with a service entrance, laundry area, and pantry.

For decades, Simmons lived in the home with his close friend and longtime house manager, Teresa Reveles. In 2014, he abruptly stepped away from public life, canceling appearances, shutting down his fitness studio, and ceasing communication with fans. The sudden disappearance of such a famously outgoing figure led to intense speculation, including conspiracy theories that he was being held against his will by Reveles or suffering from a serious health condition.

Here is a video tour of the home:

In March 2016, Simmons addressed the rumors directly in a phone interview with the Today show, insisting he was not being held hostage and simply wanted to enjoy some quiet time. That November, without fanfare or public explanation, his longtime Beverly Hills fitness studio "Slimmons" closed its doors for good.

The speculation continued to build, reaching new levels in 2017 with the launch of the podcast "Missing Richard Simmons," which explored why he had vanished so suddenly and whether something more sinister might be at play. That same year, the LAPD conducted a wellness check at Simmons' home and confirmed he was safe, in good spirits, and making his own choices. In April 2017, Simmons was briefly hospitalized for severe indigestion. Days later, a Facebook post appeared on his official page showing a photo of him with the caption: "I'm not 'missing,' just a little under the weather." Fans quickly noted that the image appeared to be from 2013, adding fuel to theories that someone else may have been posting on his behalf.

Despite the ongoing concern, Simmons and his publicist consistently maintained that nothing was wrong and that he had simply chosen to retire from public life. In 2022, his spokesperson reiterated that Simmons was "happy, healthy and living the life he has chosen."

On July 12, 2024, Simmons fell in the bathroom of his home. Despite encouragement from Reveles to seek medical attention, he chose to remain at home, reportedly not wanting to leave on his birthday. He was found unresponsive the following morning and pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Coroner later ruled his death accidental, citing complications from recent falls and heart disease.

The listing is being handled by John A. Lucy of Keller Williams Hollywood Hills. The home is described as polished, serene, and private—a fitting reflection of the man who inspired millions with his energy, positivity, and heartfelt devotion to helping others improve their health and self-worth.
