What is Tommy Haas's Net Worth?

Tommy Haas is a German-American former professional tennis player who has a net worth of $5 million. During his career on the ATP Tour from 1996 to 2017, Tommy Haas won 15 singles titles and reached a rank of world No. 2 in men's singles. He also won a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and an ATP doubles title at the 2009 Pacific Coast Championships.

Early Life

Tommy Haas was born on April 3, 1978 in Hamburg, West Germany to Brigitte and Peter. Haas's father was a tennis coach, and began bringing him to his work when he was a young child. Haas went on to win his first youth tournament when he was just five years old. He won his second at the age of eight. Between the ages of 11 and 13, Haas twice won the Austrian Championship, the German Championship, and the European Championship. During this time, he trained at tennis coach Nick Bollettieri's academy in Bradenton, Florida. Haas has a sister named Sabine who also became a professional tennis player.

Professional Career

Haas turned professional in 1996 and played in his first Grand Slam tournament, the US Open. After helping Germany win the World Team Cup in 1998, he had his breakout year in 1999 when he won his first ATP Tour singles title, at the US Indoor Championships, and reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and the final of the Grand Slam Cup. In 2000, Haas won a silver medal at the Olympics in Sydney. He had arguably his greatest career season in 2001, winning four ATP titles including the Vienna Open and the Stuttgart Masters. Haas concluded the year as world No. 8 in men's singles. He reached a peak of world No. 2 in the spring of 2002, but quickly fell in the ranks after that while he took time off to care for his ailing family and deal with myriad injuries. Haas returned to full-time tennis in 2004 and won ATP titles at the US Clay Court Championships and the Los Angeles Open, earning him Comeback Player of the Year honors. His only title in 2005 was with the German national team at the World Team Cup. In 2006, Haas won his second US Indoor Championships and Los Angeles Open, as well as his first Delray Beach Open. He won his third career US Indoor Championships in 2007, the same year he made it to the Australian Open semifinals and the US Open quarterfinals.

Beset by injuries, Haas failed to win any titles in 2008. The next year, he won his first and only doubles title, paired with Radek Štěpánek at the Pacific Coast Championships. Haas also won his first ATP title on grass, at the Halle Open, and made it to the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time. After his successful year in 2009, Haas was plagued by injuries in 2010 and missed the majority of the season while recovering from surgeries. He returned in 2011 but failed to claim any titles. Haas staged an impressive comeback in 2012, winning his second career Halle Open and reaching the finals of the Hamburg Open and the Citi Open. He briefly returned to the top 20 of the ATP rankings in October, and finished the season being named the Comeback Player of the Year for the second time in his career. In 2013, Haas reached the final of the SAP Open and won two titles: the Bavarian Championships and his second career Vienna Open. He played in the last final of his career in 2014, at the Zagreb Indoors, where he lost to reigning champ Marin Čilić. Following a brief comeback in 2015, Haas missed almost all of the 2016 season due to toe surgery. He returned in 2017 for his final ATP season, with his last tournament being the Generali Open Kitzbühel. Haas officially announced his retirement in March of 2018.

Personal Life

From 2006 to 2024, Haas was in a relationship with actress and producer Sara Foster. They had two daughters together: Valentina and Josephine. In 2010, the year Valentina was born, Haas became a United States citizen.
