Early Life
Mark Feehily was born Markus Michael Patrick Feehily on May 28, 1980, in Sligo, Ireland. He is the son of Marie and Oliver Feehily, and he has two brothers, Colin and Barry. During his childhood, Mark enjoyed singing and playing the tin whistle. Since his youth, Mariah Carey has been his favorite singer, and he got to collaborate with her on a 2000 cover of the Phil Collins song "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" as a member of Westlife. As a teenager, Feehily played football and tennis.
Career
Feehily formed the band Six As One (later renamed IOYOU) with Kian Egan and Shane Filan, and they released a single called "Together Girl Forever." After Filan's mother told Boyzone manager Louis Walsh about them, he added Brian McFadden and Nicky Byrne to the boy band that would be known as Westlife. The group's self-titled 1999 debut album reached #1 in five countries and was certified 20× Platinum in Indonesia, 5× Platinum in the UK, 3× Platinum in New Zealand, and 2× Platinum in Denmark. The singles "Swear It Again," "If I Let You Go," "Flying Without Wings," "I Have a Dream"/ "Seasons in the Sun," and "Fool Again" all topped the charts in multiple countries. Next, Westlife released the 2000 album "Coast to Coast," which reached #1 in five countries and went Platinum or higher in seven countries. The album featured the #1 singles "My Love" and "Uptown Girl" (a cover of the Billy Joel hit). The band's next two albums, 2001's "World of Our Own" and 2003's "Turnaround," reached #1 in Ireland and the UK and were certified 4× Platinum and 2× Platinum, respectively, in the UK. Personal Life
In 2005, Mark publicly came out as gay in an interview with The Sun. As Westlife's only gay member, he had chosen to keep his sexual orientation private and didn't discuss his personal life in interviews. At the time of the interview, Feehily was in a relationship with fashion photographer Kevin McDaid, who was a member of the boy band V. They began dating in January 2005 after meeting at a Cheerios Childline Concert. Mark and Kevin graced the cover of Attitude magazine in late 2007, and they became engaged in February 2010. However, in December 2011, Feehily announced that they had ended their engagement. Mark later began a relationship with Cailean O'Neill, and he announced their engagement in February 2019. The couple welcomed a daughter, Layla, via surrogacy, later that year. Feehily is passionate about philanthropy, and he is a supporter of the nonprofit organization Aware. In 2011, he was ranked #50 on Different Scene's list of "The Most Influential Gays."
Awards
In 2013, Feehily was named Artist/Entertainer of the Year at The Galas, and in 2022, he won a British Diversity Award for "his work campaigning for surrogacy laws." In 2021, Feehily paid €2.3 million for a Victorian-era home in Dublin. He sold the five-bedroom, five-bathroom home for €2.4 million in 2023.
