Early Life and Education
Lloyd Braun was born in 1958 in New York to Merna and David. His father was an eminent attorney in the music industry who represented such recording artists as Bob Dylan, George Harrison, and Neil Diamond. Braun was raised in New Hyde Park, and for his higher education, he went to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie. After graduating with his bachelor's degree in 1980, he attended the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, from which he earned his Juris Doctor in 1983.
Career Beginnings in Entertainment Law
Braun started his career as an entertainment attorney like his father. He represented various clients, including Larry David, David Chase, and Howard Stern. On Larry David's television sitcom "Seinfeld," Lloyd Braun had a character named after him who was played by Peter Keleghan and then by Matt McCoy.
Brillstein-Grey Entertainment
In 1994, Braun left his law practice and became president of Brillstein-Grey Entertainment, a production company and talent management firm. During his tenure, which lasted until 1999, he oversaw the development of such popular television series as "NewsRadio," "Just Shoot Me!," and "The Sopranos," as well as the buddy cop action comedy film "Bulletproof."
ABC
From 1999 to 2001, Braun served as chairman of Buena Vista Television Productions, and from 2001 to 2004 he was chairman of ABC Entertainment Group. He was let go from ABC shortly after he greenlit the pilot to the show "Lost," which had cost $13 million to produce and was heavily scorned by Disney CEO Michael Eisner. Ultimately, Braun ended up being vindicated when "Lost" became a massive hit; he soon joined the show to narrate the episode intros.

Following his dismissal from ABC, Braun became the head of Yahoo!'s content division Yahoo! Media Group. In his role, he oversaw the development of the popular celebrity website OMG! and the daily video compilation show "The 9." Braun also oversaw significant redesigns of Yahoo!'s media sites. His time at the company ended upon his resignation in late 2006.
BermanBraun / Whalerock Industries
After resigning from his position at Yahoo!, Braun partnered with fellow media executive Gail Berman to found the entertainment company BermanBraun. Among the first properties developed by the company was the television game show "Duel," which ran on ABC from 2007 to 2008. In 2010, BermanBraun entered into a partnership with Starcom MediaVest to produce television, film, and digital content. The following year, the company produced the Syfy superhero series "Alphas." BermanBraun went on to produce such shows as the History Channel's "Brad Meltzer's Decoded," the Discovery Channel's "Unchained Reaction," and Showtime's "Polyamory: Married & Dating." The company also acquired the online media company Whiskey Media.
On top of its content production, Whalerock provides consulting services for media brands. Its partners include MTV, Comedy Central, Microsoft, Sirius XM, and two of the Kardashians, Khloe and Kylie.
Other Ventures
From 2019 to 2023, Braun served as chairman of the talent agency WME and as president of its parent company the Endeavor Client Group. Subsequently, in late 2024, he co-founded the independent production studio Prologue Entertainment with Noah Oppenheim and Sarah Bremner. Financed by RedBird Capital Partners and Jeff Zucker, the studio develops films and television series.

With his wife Lauren, Braun has four children.
In 1996, Lloyd paid $1.8 million for a home in the Pacific Palisades. Today, this home is worth perhaps $15 million.
In 2003, Lloyd paid $5.3 million for a 20-acre estate in Ojai, California. The name of his company, "Whalerock," is a reference to a larger rock formation on his property that looks like a whale. Today this estate is worth at least $10 million.
