What is Randall Emmett's net worth and salary?

Randall Emmett is an American film and television producer and director who has a net worth of $500 thousand. Randall Emmett is best known as the co-founder and chairman of Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, a prolific indie banner that specializes in low- to mid-budget action and crime thrillers anchored by marquee names. Over a career spanning more than a hundred producing credits, he has leveraged foreign presales, tax-incentive shoots, and tight schedules to assemble commercially reliable packages featuring stars such as Bruce Willis, Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta, Al Pacino, and Mel Gibson, with cumulative global grosses cited in excess of $1.2 billion. His slate includes studio-released titles like "End of Watch," "2 Guns," "Escape Plan," and "Lone Survivor," prestige efforts tied to Martin Scorsese, including "Silence" and a producer credit on "The Irishman," and his directing debut, "Midnight in the Switchgrass." On television, he produced the hit Starz series "Power," which ran six seasons and spawned multiple spin-offs. Emmett's profile expanded beyond Hollywood circles through appearances on "Vanderpump Rules" alongside then-fiancée Lala Kent.

Financial Problems?

In mid-2021, Randall Emmett filed court documents requesting that a Los Angeles judge reduce his monthly child support obligations to his ex-wife, actress Ambyr Childers. He sought relief from a January 2021 order requiring him to maintain a $50,000 fund for their children's non-tuition expenses, citing significant financial strain. In the filing, Emmett claimed to be carrying roughly $500,000 in IRS debt, paying $15,000 per month to the agency and an additional $10,000 per month to American Express as part of a structured repayment plan. His attorneys warned:

"If forced to continue making these payments, Randall will fall deeper and deeper into debt and will be forced to file for bankruptcy."

Speaking for himself, Randall explained:

"I only produced one movie in 2020, as opposed to several in normal years, therefore, my income has been drastically reduced and I am having liquidity issues."

Subsequent reporting from the Los Angeles Times revealed that his company, Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, faced mounting lawsuits from financiers, former partners, and employees seeking repayment of more than $25 million in loans and disputed payments. He also repaid nearly $400,000 to the IRS in 2021 and reached settlement agreements on multiple credit and landlord disputes.

By 2022, amid accusations of financial mismanagement and fraud, Emmett acknowledged that EFO was "essentially defunct" and said he had resigned from the company to launch a new venture, Convergence Entertainment. He has since continued working sporadically as an independent producer.

Early Life

Randall Emmett was born in March 1971 in Miami, Florida. His parents worked in the insurance business, and he developed an early fascination with movies and television. As a teenager, he attended Miami's prestigious New World School of the Arts, where he studied acting before earning a scholarship to the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. There, he shifted his focus from acting to producing, later recalling that while "everyone else wanted to be a writer or director," he was the only student who wanted to be a producer.

In Los Angeles, Emmett landed an internship with legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer, which introduced him to the mechanics of major film production. He later joined the talent agency International Creative Management (ICM), where he built connections with rising Hollywood talent. One of those connections was actor Mark Wahlberg, who eventually hired Emmett as his personal assistant.

Wahlberg's friendship and mentorship proved pivotal in Emmett's early career, and it has often been said that Emmett was part of the inspiration for the character "Turtle" on the HBO series "Entourage," which Wahlberg executive-produced.

EFO Films

In 1998, Emmett teamed with former hedge fund manager George Furla to launch Emmett/Furla Films, later renamed Emmett/Furla/Oasis (EFO) after Dubai-based Oasis Ventures bought a one-third stake in 2013. The company's business model revolved around low- to mid-budget action and crime thrillers filmed in tax-friendly international locations. EFO became known for pairing aging Hollywood stars with efficient production schedules and foreign presales to finance movies that often bypassed theatrical release in favor of DVD and streaming markets.

EFO's first film was the 2000 straight-to-video title "Escape to Grizzly Mountain." Over the next two decades, the company produced more than 100 films, including major box office hits like "Lone Survivor" (2013) and prestige projects such as Martin Scorsese's "Silence" (2016) and "The Irishman" (2019), which earned Emmett a producer credit and brought him closer to mainstream Hollywood recognition. However, most of the company's catalog followed a distinct formula: modest budgets, brief appearances by marquee actors, and rapid overseas distribution. For instance, Bruce Willis—who starred in more than 20 EFO films—was reportedly paid $2 million for two days of work on some productions, sometimes appearing on screen for less than ten minutes.

Selected EFO Films:

  • "Half Past Dead" (2002)
  • "Wonderland" (2003)
  • "Loverboy" (2005)
  • "Edison" (2005)
  • "The Wicker Man" (2006)
  • "88 Minutes" (2007)
  • "Finding Rin Tin Tin" (2007)
  • "Rambo" (2008)
  • "Day of the Dead" (2008)
  • "Playback" (2012)
  • "Empire State" (2013)
  • "Escape Plan" (2013)
  • "2 Guns" (2013)
  • "Lone Survivor" (2013)
  • "Vice" (2015)
  • "Heist" (2015)
  • "Amityville: The Awakening" (2017)
  • "Aftermath" (2017)
  • "Silence" (2016)
  • "Hard Kill" (2020)

EFO also produced the hit Starz drama "Power," created with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, which aired for six seasons between 2014 and 2020 and became one of the network's most successful franchises.

Despite the company's commercial success, EFO eventually became engulfed in lawsuits and financial turmoil. Between 2019 and 2022, the firm faced claims from former financiers and partners alleging fraud, unpaid debts, and misuse of funds, while the Writers Guild of America West won a $541,000 judgment for unpaid wages. By 2022, Emmett acknowledged that EFO had effectively ceased operations and said he had launched a new venture called Convergence Entertainment.

Personal Life

Randall Emmett married actress Ambyr Childers in 2009, and they had two daughters before separating in 2015. Their divorce was finalized in late 2017. In 2018, Emmett began a relationship with "Vanderpump Rules" star Lala Kent, and the couple became engaged the following year. Their relationship ended in 2021 after allegations of infidelity and the release of photos showing Emmett with other women in Nashville. Kent later accused him of abuse and concealment of personal misconduct in custody filings, allegations he denied.

50 Cent Feud

In April 2019, rapper 50 Cent got into a heated social media war with Randall and Lala. The feud began with 50 posting angry messages to Instagram after seeing Lala brag on TV that Randall had bought her a Range Rover. 50 is supposedly upset at Randall for allegedly owing him $1 million connected to their show Power. The feud was eventually settled behind closed doors.

Dan Bilzerian Lawsuit

In 2013, social media star Dan Bilzerian sued EFO claiming that the production company reneged on an agreement where he would get 8 minutes of screen time in the movie "Lone Survivor" in exchange for a $1 million investment. The suit was dropped, and tensions were smoothed over because Dan has appeared in additional EFO films.

Real Estate

In November 2017, Randall Emmett paid $3.925 million for a home in Los Angeles' Bel-Air neighborhood. He listed this home for sale in May 2022 for $6.295 million. The home had previously been owned and remodeled by "Flipping Out" star Jeff Lewis. In December 2023, Randall listed the home again at a reduced price of $4.995 million. He sold the home in September 2024 for $4.35 million.
