Patrick Kielty is a Northern Irish comedian, television and radio host, and actor who has a net worth of $7 million. Patrick Kielty previously hosted or co-hosted such shows as "Patrick Kielty Almost Live," "Fame Academy," "Love Island," and "Debatable," and in 2023 he took over as the new host of RTÉ One's long-running talk show "The Late Late Show." He also hosts a Saturday morning program on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Early Life and Education

Patrick Kielty was born on January 31, 1971 in Dundrum, Northern Ireland as one of three brothers. His father, Jack, was fatally shot in early 1988 by the Ulster Defence Association loyalist paramilitary group.

Kielty was educated as a youth at Saint Patrick's Grammar School in Downpatrick. As a teenager, he played Gaelic football and was a member of the Down GAA minor team for three years. For his higher education, Kielty studied psychology at Queen's University Belfast.

Career Beginnings in Comedy

In 1991, while still in college, Kielty began doing stand-up comedy with fellow Queen's University student Jackie Hamilton at the Gasworks comedy club in Dublin. From there, the duo opened their own comedy club in Belfast, called The Empire Laughs Back. Kielty's career took off after that, and he became a finalist in the national comedy search organized for the Irish talk show "The Late Late Show." This led to a successful BBC Northern Ireland series named after his Belfast comedy club.

Television and Radio Hosting

Kielty hosted his first major television show, the UTV program "SUS," in 1993. He subsequently hosted "PK Tonight" on BBC Northern Ireland. Kielty had his breakthrough in 1997 when he expanded beyond Northern Ireland as host of the UK game show "Last Chance Lottery," which aired on Channel 4. He had an even bigger program in 1999, when he started hosting "Patrick Kielty Almost Live" on BBC Northern Ireland. The show ran until 2003 and featured such notable guests as Shania Twain, Tom Jones, Jason Priestley, and Kelly Brook. Meanwhile, from 2001 to 2003, Kielty hosted several episodes of the comedy game show "Stupid Punts," and from 2002 to 2003 he co-hosted the talent competition show "Fame Academy" with Cat Deeley. He subsequently co-hosted the charity spinoff "Comic Relief Does Fame Academy" from 2003 to 2007. During part of that time, in both 2005 and 2006, he co-hosted the ITV reality dating show "Love Island."

In 2010, Kielty hosted the first season of the Channel 4 comedy series "Stand Up for the Week" and also hosted the BBC Radio 2 Saturday morning show. Additionally, he had his first of many guest-hosting stints on BBC One's "The One Show." In 2016, Kielty returned to BBC Northern Ireland to co-host the comedy panel game show "Bad Language." Remaining on the network, he then hosted the documentary "Patrick Kielty's Mulholland Drive" and the talk show "Delete, Delete, Delete." From 2016 to 2017, Kielty hosted the game show "Debatable" on BBC Two. In 2018, he hosted the acclaimed BBC documentary "My Dad, the Peace Deal and Me," about the legacy of the Good Friday Agreement. Kielty hosted another BBC documentary, "One Hundred Years of Union," in 2021. The year after that, he began hosting the Saturday morning show on BBC Radio 5 Live. In 2023, Kielty took over as the new host of the RTÉ One talk show "The Late Late Show," succeeding Ryan Tubridy.

Acting Appearances

In addition to his many hosting roles, Kielty has done some professional acting. Between 2007 and 2008, he performed in the play "A Night in November" in Belfast, Dublin, and London. Later, in 2023, he guest-starred on the BBC One sitcom "Queen of Oz" and played a stand-up comic in the feature film "Ballywalter," co-starring Seána Kerslake.

Personal Life

Previously, Kielty was in a high-profile, five-year relationship with fellow television host Amanda Byram. They split in 2003. Kielty went on to date another television host, Cat Deeley, whom he married in 2012 in Rome, Italy. The couple had two sons together, named Milo and James. Kielty and Deeley announced their separation in the summer of 2025.

Real Estate

In 2006, Cat paid $2.7 million for a home in Beverly Hills, California. She and Patrick used this home as their US base until 2020 when they hoisted it onto the market for just under $5 million.
